can't you just use plugins that don't require offline processing? Offline processing seems like such an antiquated approach to production that was spawned from the days of not enough CPU horsepower a decade ago... You guys are talking about "Freeze" right? I use freeze a lot...still useful for me...I actually like Pro Tool's freeze the best - you can even freeze AUX channels.

no, it's different than freeze. it's like in ProTools when you use AudioSuite plugins. the stuff where you commit the edit to the audio file directly without being able to undo it.

Cubase stores offline process history. Always has. It's actually "undoable" long after the undo history is exceeded or cleared, as it's stored on a per file basis.
I'm confused why this is being brought up....is there something new here? You've always been able to do this...and yes--you've never been able to audition processing in mix context, frankly, because that's not what it's for really. It's for being able to do surgical stuff--use a HPF on a plosive in vocal....some kind of noise reduction to remove some buzz over the track-click removal from people's shit edits, etc....this isn't really where you decide how to creatively EQ a track.

You can undo it by flipping to the previous playlist. You made a duplicate playlist and named it accordingly before applying a plug-in with Audiosuite right? 👍🏻

You can preview....not in mix context.

Offline processing seems like such an antiquated approach to production that was spawned from the days of not enough CPU horsepower a decade ago... I've got a UAD quad card - and it's not too difficult for me to max it out - especially when I'm working on high sample-rate material. Once it's maxed out, I can either: 1) Freeze the track 2) Process in place 3) Direct Offline Processing Currently, without realtime preview, #3 is pointless for me. The other two work ok. I'd like to put a UAD octa card in my machine... maybe someday... or maybe I'll wait until the next generation UAD stuff comes out.

What’s up with Cubase not recognizing my iZotope plugins? Anyone figure that out?

Props to Steinberg....my 30 demo expires tomorrow...and I just started to go through "what do I need to export"....and found you can still open the projects with cubase 6. Can't find a few plug ins...definitely the 32bit engine doesn't sound as nice...but, they open. If there's anyone that doubts the "sound" of that new engine...yeah--open the same file with an old version, RIGHT after you close it with the 64bit engine.
There was a period where that wasn't the case(file compatibility)...there was this very small list of things that Avid does SO much better-take/playlist management...that was one-file format backward/forward compatibility. Nice to see them address that.
the only few things I came away thinking less of from this demo. All in all, it's hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a DAW "upgrade" at this point....but, this is the first time I've wanted to...when I tried 8.5, what a piece of turd. I wouldn't have bought that "upgrade" if they paid ME to use it. This, though, feels wholly better at every turn.

Just finished my first "professional" (haha) mixdown on 9.5, with my new hybrid mixing setup, and I have to say, turned out really well, and felt really smooth all day during the mix. Also first thing I've done with Pro L-2 equally impressed with that upgrade.
I'm just glad I was able to salvage my old session files from early 2016 to finish this re-mix. From a rebuilt computer!
I don't throw things away, but damn if I couldn't prove to get better at archiving and backups.
Trying to get this album released by midnight... just finished the artwork this afternoon.

Are users finding a noticable difference in the sound engine or is it very subtle ? i'm currently on Cubase 7 / 32 bit.

This is one of my snowflake issues. yes, it's very noticeable to me. With modern LPX, C 9.5, and Mixbus, I feel no need to sum externally OR put two bus band aids on that I'd had to develop over the years to get 32bit float mixers on par with fixed bit hardware I came from.

Got to be honest...I feel the same way. Lots of times these days, I'm finding that I prefer the ITB bounce.

The difference in Logic 32 vs 64bit summing is demonstrable. This maybe not so much. I found a flaw in my quick Cubase test. The previous logic was fairly exhaustive....and there was a difference...here...I can get them to null opening the same project in 9.5 and v6. YMMV.
