I'm still happy enough with the Rycote. I just got another, easy to put a second one on the back of a shock for singers facing each other on the same mic.

I’ve got one of the Pearlman Beatles style pop filters that I got with my Pearlman TM-250 several years ago that I’ve been very happy with. Not sure if they are still available but I remember it being $60 at the time.

I just asked reps from MXL, and they said their pop filter is available separately at Amazon and a few other places. I asked if there was any info regarding the design, and he said no. It looks like the Abbey Road filters, but that's not enough to make me buy one. I'd trust Pearlman to be a better made one, but who knows, maybe the same shop in China makes them all.
I have a Rycote shock mount, but never bought the accompanying pop filter. The Rycote doesn't fit some mics I use anyway, but I'll get one eventually, just to have.

If your recording a ton of different vocalist having a handful of different pop filters is a cheap often golden investment!

I have a rycote for my U87 and its wonderful, I remember trying to get a larger rycote a few years back when I had a mic the size of a 47 and could not get one Cheers Wiz

I have the Warm WA47 here on loan and it doesn't fit in my Rycote.
It seems petty, but I'd love to be able to test the Abbey Road, Pearlman and MXL on the same mic.

I have one of those standard clip-on things, but they're awkward. Maybe i'll just get one of these $2 cheapo ones, just to keep someone's nasties off of my capsules.

Rycote makes 2 sizes of shock, the larger fits a U47.

That looks basically like the same one you can get on eBay for under $2 from China.
Of course, it may or may not show up in your mailbox (some of mine just never came.)

Yeah sponge Like is a good way to describe it, very effective in that it stayed out of the way. I think that's the way to go. After much research, I found a few saying that the sponge-type was the most sonically transparent so I bought some of the thinner Rycote replacements in bulk for $13 www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/766039-REG/Rycote_045004_InVision_Universal_Pop_Filter.htmland made my own holder using an old gooseneck that I liked. Now, I don't use my Stedmann anymore. The foam types aren't completely transparent (nothing is) but I've found the thin Rycote foams to be better than any of the mesh types when it comes to high frequencies and I don't get any of the occasional odd ringing/metallic noises I was getting with the Stedmann.
Resurrecting this thread after doing my own comparison owning both and found the same as bowie that I don't use my Stedmann anymore after comparing the two and prefer the Rycotte that I also bought in a 5 pack so you could use just 1 thin one (or multiple if needed.)

I did buy the one from Blue Microphones that looks like the Abbey Road on a gooseneck. It’s my current favorite over the Rycote and Hakan.

Interesting. So you find the Blue Mic pop filter sounds better than the Rycote? That's good to know. I never did buy the Rycote. I was given one of the lollipop filters that comes with the SE Electronic Isolation Pack. I just lean it on whatever mount I'm using. I don't use a pop filter for myself, just for other vocalists to keep my mics from getting splattered. The sE seems fine, but I'll keep the Blue in mind. Attachments:

I didn't read this entire thread again but just to add something... I really dislike metal pop filters. I've got a couple Stedman pop filters and a Pauly and an old Popper-stopper. I've done a ton of testing on vocalists. The Stedman absolutely causes extra sibilance and gives a metalic quality to the source. It exaggerates wind noise. Test it for yourself. Blow into your pop filters. What sound are they producing? The metalic pop filters add something I hate to the sound. The pauly and Popper-Stopper just attenuate the wind noise and plossives. No metalic overtones. If I needed more, I'd just find an old Popper-Stopper. They were cheap and sound about the same as the Pauly, which was hideously expensive for a pop filter. That's my worthless two cents. rant over...

Thanks mcIrish, I'll listen for that next time I try the sE pop filter.

BTW, I can't absolutely swear to this but it's my impression is that part of the tuning for the Abbey Road filter IS the fixed distance between it and the microphone. In which case mounting it on a gooseneck would probably get it the way of its working properly.

I use the Peluso on my 67's and on my Flea 48. It is perfectly designed. I catches all the pops and controls sibilance a tad also (not what pop filters do). It was a larger radius than my mics so i bent it to have a similar radius to the mics they are on. I wrapped the Peluso around a can of spray paint and slowly bent it till it matched. They look very cool.
.. and again, they are perfect at catching pops and right up super close too!! Which is excellent as that is where I always like to sing and mostly want other artist to sing also.
