What a mess. It appears that PT 12.8.1 is not compatible with newly-released Eucon 3.7, and Eucon 3.6.1 now reports that it is not compatible with the current Pro Tools Control app. So Avid has broken my stable 12.8.1/3.6.1/Control environment just by publishing new releases of Eucon and PT. Way to go.

So it's an installer-related issue on Eucon 3.7. Uninstall/(re)install fixed it. Sheesh.

When I find something that works on my machine and OS, it stays the way it is. Screw the updates, can’t remember a time when it was vital to my work flow.

OK I admit to at one time having a very close relationship with AVID, as a former dealer based product specialist, but as much as you can try and support a company and hope they are finally on the right track. At some point you just shake your head and wonder what the fuck are they thinking as you walk away in disgust. You can't give people a feature, then take it away, then expect people to buy a higher priced system to get that feature back, do they want people to go elsewhere? At least with the current subscription model they can give it back at no cost to those who are paid up and don't decide to give Avid the much deserved middle finger by going elsewhere!

So glad I didn't pay for updates after buying PT12. Guess I'm stuck on the old full featured version...

It's just a bug. Every developer has bugs. The more complicated your software, and the more it uses external peripherals and plugins from 3rd parties, the more bugs that will pop up. If you gotta live on the bleeding edge, well....you just gotta deal with it. It's the "new" studio troubleshooting / maintenance issue. Gone are the old days of recapping the console, replacing a scratchy pot, trying to figure out why the patch bay doesn't patch, or why the outboard piece is howling when it was't yesterday, Now it's debugging software (mostly).

You can't give people a feature, then take it away, As Bill says, its a bug, and Avid is fixing it. The Eucon installation package has a bug too. Frustrating but common given the complexity of software these days.

I think I'll stick with the old ways a while longer...

Bugs don't appear in verified/finished code unless you go tinker with it. Someone went in there and messed with the VCA code on purpose. I don't even use ProTools, but I do software development.

I decided to go 100% avid bc I was having driver issues with my motu. Bought 2 HD I/o's, native card and upgraded to PTHD. Ended up having to buy a new computer bc the native card was pcie 4x and my comp only had 1x slots. Then they made me buy a digilink license, Something they just made up, in order to use all the hardware and software I just spent $6000 on. So now I can't possibly have any issues right. Wrong!!! I can't even get it to play for 10 seconds without aae errors. I'm so over avid. I'll never give them another cent.
