My power supply for my Charter Oaks s600 died on me. Anyone have an idea where I could get it repaired or find a replacement for it? Is Charter Oaks even around anymore? I looked at the website but none of the numbers worked. Any ideas? I love my mics and want to use them.

Maybe this isn't the best time to get hold of them?

A power supply really shouldn't be a difficult fix.

A power supply really shouldn't be a difficult fix. I think it's probably generic made in China but if one can't find tech local for mics Shannon should be first call.

A power supply really shouldn't be a difficult fix. I'm hoping that is the case. In a moment of weakness(laziness) I plugged my Rode K2 into the power supply and I thought I heard a click or a pop. It didn't work and after that didn't work for either S600. Might be a coincidence but I was wondering if some power supplies were not identical. I did check the fuse and it seams to still meter continuity. Of course I'm no electrical engineer so?..........

Different voltages, different current capacities, different pinouts, different numbers of voltages supplied, some supplies include pattern control, which means varying voltages to one or both diaphragms, etc, etc. NEVER assume that one mic is compatible with a supply made for another. While many Chinese supplies might be identical, you never know. A click or pop sounds like you blew a semiconductor lke a regulator, transistor, or diode, but it might also be a blown cap. Usually when a cap goes all at once like that it goes "BANG!", though.

I sent the mics out to Shannon at mic rehab to check the power supply. Now the problem is I have to decide whether to let Shannon redo them. I wanna do it but is it worth it? Choices choices.

Yes, if the quality of a mic tuned to your liking is worth more than resale value. You probably could not get the mic Shannon can give you without spending significantly more elsewhere and spending significantly more makeing wrong choices, but if resale value is the thing you won't get anywhere near what you should be able to get out of a Shannon tuned mic based on Something like a CA as you should, but a Shannon tuned mic should be more valueable to you because it is tuned to what you want!

Yea ericn, that is my struggle. For my own curiosity I want to pull the trigger but being a big fish in a little pond out here in Pennsylvania, I wonder if my clients and budget can justify it. Of course my quest for the craft will more than likely out way any common sense again. Why should I turn back now?

My first thought for PSU repair/replacement was Hamptone, but if it’s already in Shannon’s very capable hands, I know you’ll be fine.

Oh man I get it, not to sound like Shannon's PR guy, but as a guy who sold a couple of very very large boatloads of mics, I look at Shannon as a shortcut to a great sounding mic, the big exception here is if you have clients who care more about the name on the mic than the sound!
