Hey dudes. I need to grab some acoustic piano and electric piano VI's. I'm liking the Addictive Keys demos quite a bit. popmann Jamie, I know you're not a huge fan. What else should I look into? Is it Scarbee that everyone loves for e pianos? I get a free license from XLN from a bundled thing so I'll get one for free. But I think the grand and the upright and the Rhodes all sound really nice. Then again, I've never been too in-the-know on VI's. But I have a new baby in the house and I'm back in school and the times when I can mic stuff up upstairs are more limited. Need some VI's. Any insight is appreciated.

The XLN you want is the upright. The rest are mediocre at best.
I can say enough about Keyscape. One stop shop for piano like instruments. Not redundant with the U3 upright from xln.

Yes, keyscape is the one to go for. It's just awesome. The braunschweig thing is cool although I've always thought it had some weird frequencies you have to tame when trying to make it fit in a mix. It's got a lot of character though.

Keyscape - It’s definitely the most realistic sounding in the mix to me. It’s something about the dynamics that sounds more realistic to me. There’s a lot of superfluous stuff with it, but it’s kind of like “ok, piano and wurly/Rhoades are taken care of now...not that I really use them that often.

I guess I need to try Keyscape too, the way some of y'all are talking about it.

Speaking as a pro keyboard player of 30+ years I can say without doubt.
Keyscape.
I doubt it will be surpassed for a very, very long time.

Kinda looks like Keyscapes is it. I like the one stop shop as long as it's all at the highest level. Seems consensus is that Spectrasonics is at the top of the heap. Those electric sounds are pretty jaw dropping.
I don't always want a grand piano but the Addictive upright will help out there.

I would imagine something like the Ravenscroft or whatever is great, but the C7 is the modern "rock" kinda sound...plus you get all the other stuff.

The Ravenscroft is pretty fabulous. Sonic Couture's Clav is the best that I've heard. I would love to hear the Keyscape stuff, but I have a real Rhodes and Wurly, so I don't know that it would get much use.

Keyscape!!
KEYSCAPE
(Keyscape)
All silliness aside, it's the best I've ever heard or used.

I dunno....I feel like he (Scott/Spectrasonics) goes the Apple route that way....price fixed, no advertised discounts. Might fall under some kind of store coupon, though.

Keyscape. Wow.
Bought it several weeks ago but only had a chance to fire it up today. Pretty amazing stuff. I simply can't imagine these sounds sounding any more 'real'.

The samples sound fantastic, but that’s a pretty hefty price tag.

The samples sound fantastic, but that’s a pretty hefty price tag. I grabbed the Studio Bundle on an Educator's Discount. I don't remember what the price was with the discount but it was significant enough that I didn't think I could do better waiting for a sale.
