I was looking at built skulptor but it raised cost quite a bit

Their quality is usually superb so I might just get it if price is reasonable

...I've had a pair of these since they were announced. To the above poster asking how they are on vocals: FANTASTIC! Very rich sounding w/a lot of weight. I bought a factory built pair w/warranty (serial #'s 4 and 5). I tested all the switch positions between the pair and they are matched w/in two tenths of a decibel at all positions. Most positions were dead-on.
I for one LOVE that these DON'T have an output attenuator. Just always clean as it can be, less crap in the signal path, easier and more accurate recall.

I like these just as much as the very best modules I have owned like Burl b1d, Avedis ma5 etc - I actually prefer them since they don't have that output attenuator. Makes them 100% stepped switches for quick and easy recall weather using them for tracking or as a stereo transformer color box on the HILO's insert loop w/some line to mic pads. I use the Elysia a lot too cause it's cleaner and they go great together for a lil overdub rig in my desktop lunchbox.

I thought this is looked upon as a positive like more flexibility with colororatin?

So he is saying that without it recall is much easier and faster since its just a stepped switch to set. He's not wrong on that front.

Most people prefer the attenuators. Over the years I find I'm less into the idea of tracking with distortion. I bet not even having that pot in the signal chain is even cleaner than just leaving it all the way up (off)...unless we're talking other units that actually have another amplification stage (like vp28). That is a different thing. Like Blackdog pointed out, if I'm using them as x-former color boxes in mastering, it's easy to recall them with just the stepped switches for input gain. They made sure that all the resistors that are soldered to those switches are all matched VERY close at AML. My pair is def mastering grade. I have some -40db line to mic pads I strap on the output of the HILO before feeding the AML's. I don't do it all that often, but it's a cool way to add some flavor to a sterile mix. These are fat kinda like B1d's, but next to all the capi stuff I was surprised how close they were on guitar amp (Princeton reverb). Compared to the Elysia Slulptor, they seem colored and weighty. The Elysia sounds hi-fi and more "vivid" and clear. They go great together.
