I track with one of my ID DI's I'm currently using my ID DI for Bass at mix on a send, then into a Neve 543 before hitting the Sigma. Also, the DI track is treated in PT with Bass Rider, UAD's WT800 (love it!), Pro Q2, and usually a comp plugin such as the Pro C2 before heading out to a pair of Distressors (which also handle the dry drums mix) and into the Sigma. I give the DI path a bit of UAD Ocean Way to add a little ambience.

Innertube Audio Atomic Squeezebox is the business on bass ✊ Absolutely killer!!!
And for EQ it's either and EMPEQ or more often recently, the Kush Electra 500

Ah I almost forgot about the Federal. I had the Dizengoff D864 version before I got my RS124. It really is special on bass. One could say it was made for bass.

What's funny about a Federal as a bass comp is it's lack of low frequencies. Even funnier there are full range clones. The orig does do a thing, no doubt.

I never learned to love any of the Ampeg emulations and plugs like Rbass grew old to my ears. I've tried reamping too, but the pain didn't seem worth the gain - if there was any upside to be had given the lack of bass amplification at my place. Plus I have always struggled with getting bass to sit right, so the WT was a very pleasant surprise.

I think I'm going to go with the Weight Tank instead of the Chandler RS124. The price difference kinda makes it a no brainer, and it's got great praise as well.

I was always a fan of tracking thru DI, i use direct DI in of good quality/discrete micpres. A tube DI can be the right thing, too. ATM i track directly the DI out of my Glockenklang amp... For mixing i am a huge fan of fader riding. In my bass rig i tried inserting a really good quality dbx-style comp with noise gating and limiting. Too much loss, too little improvement. (OK, the Glockenklang may be an exceptionally fast direct punch style of an amp...) So, for my own tracks i do not need much of leveling, pretty consistent playing in this regard, but many if not most bass players really do need leveling. So, if fader riding does not do it manually, i use the gain rider / similar to bass rider etc. plugin. Very useful in this application. Then i slam it maybe a bit with Harrison Mixbus internal leveler or limiter, depends on the bass sound. Rarely the Klanghelm MJUC, and if, then for the saturation mostly. What i really discovered for me as a saturator for bass especially is the Klanghelm SDRR. Does that thing i need - quickly checking some presets, then dialing in for the actual specific bass sound. Oh, and a huge helper is the Harrison tape saturation on the Mixbus busses, so bass always has it's own bus with pretty high drive on the tape emu. Great stuff for mixing.... On smooth bass tracks i try the Cakewalk La2a style plugin sometimes with good results, it is really good, also on vocals... Still discovering things possible in Mixbus - not more than 2 hands full of more or less specialized plugins that i use additionally in the meantime, most of them freeware like Acustica Audio TAN for drums or highly affordable like the Klanghelms quality stuff - less is more....
