This guy was supposed to build me a summing mixer...we talked through the design and made a bunch of tweaks.
He sent me some pictures and I paid him in full.
He never sent the unit...almost 3 years ago.
We emailed a bunch and he always put me off with some bs about how the design was complex blah blah blah.
Thief.

Bummer. I just wanted my mixer. It was an awesome design with mults and sends and stuff.

damnit. As a part-time tech, I can say I've had some people's stuff waaay too long at times, but never taken payment in full until completion. If anything parts costs up front to get started on a custom build.

Yeah...I should've known better. We took the transaction off of eBay. I felt okay at the time and I was excited because it was a great idea, he sent me pics, price was great, etc.
3 years later...
Nada.
Such a bummer. He still has his eBay store up and running.

Yeah aren't some or all of your communications in writing? Go to the cops and put some pressure on him. Or just file a civil suit. Or both.

That sucks ! By all means file a police report with all communications & contact what ever payment provider you used. The police report might just sit there, or it could be used to pile on charges if there a bunch of complaints. Sending this guy a copy of the report might scare his ass. You might want to file a report with your police, the police where he is located. If you used a Credit Card contact the Card provider. Good luck ! Also read all his EBay feedback I saw it was all positive but often people leave a positive so they don't get dinged back but if you read what they wrote you get a different picture. Years ago I got a guy banned by contacting all the people who really had problems but still left a + & showing EBay a pattern of fraud ! Good luck!

That's a bummer but it also depends how much he took you for versus the cost of pursuing him.
I know someone here in Oz that got dudded on a $25,000 console purchase from the US and because of the costs in pursuing the person responsible he'll probably never get justice.
His saga also dragged on for over three years before it became obvious he was never going to get anywhere.

And if someone builds something for me I want to see him alive. If he asks for cash for parts I may say I get you 30% if I see progress you get another 30% and than the last 40% I pay the day I pick the unit up. If someone steals money I am faster as he can say NO at the next police office. I would print out all e-mails, a picture off the ebay offer etc. Every detail I have would get listet for the Police. And I always let the scammers know taht I will now talk to the Police about the case. Very often I did mail them the police case number and the name of the officer working on it. This alone helped in two cases to get my money back within two business days. One of those asholes was in Germany and he went to JAIL becasue I was not the only case. I say do it its a case for profeesional investigators. And no you do not need to be freindly with those F....

It was that seller, yes. The design was based on that unit but we added a ton of features and functionality.

Write him and tell him that you lost faith in his blank words and you need your money back within 5 business days, if that is not going to happen you will open up an internet fraud case at your next local Police Office. Give him the chance to react asap and show him your PayPal e-mail.

Write him and tell him that you lost faith in his blank words and you need your money back within 5 business days, if that is not going to happen you will open up an internet fraud case at your next local Police Office. Give him the chance to react asap and show him your PayPal e-mail. This is good advice - except call in (or threaten to call in) the big guns - if you spoke to him over the phone/email/internet it's Wire Fraud and that is investigated by the US Secret Service Financial Crimes Division, if you mailed him payment it's Mail Fraud (US Post Office) and if he is in a different state the FBI could get involved. Sure, the amount might not actually warrant federal involvement/charges but I was able to get a silent seller to suddenly come up with my $2,000 just by mentioning it. Also, call your credit card and report the individual as a Fraudulent. I was able to get a charge-back from Mercenary Audio when they were running their scam after Fletcher left. It had been almost a year - so well after a normal claim - and my CC company tried to contact them with no luck so they eventually declared Mercenary to be a criminal/fraudulent enterprise (their words) and refunded all my money. In that case I was able to point to online discussion with EveAnna Manley, Dan Kennedy and others on how they too had been scammed which obviously helped. Hope that helps. I ask myself why some people always want to redifne the rules of living together. But this sounds great to my ears....

Before going to the police or engaging a blood-sucking leech, I mean lawyer, make sure the statute of limitations for this type of fraud in your jurisdiction hasn't already expired.
