Back Story: Worked in PT12.4 for this whole mastering project. Client calls & says he sent me the wrong file for one song and he needs it b4 5pm ( 4:35 my time ) He is two hours away but I didn't think of this so I thought i had 20 min 🤦♂️I Kept Calm and was gone import the new mix right into the session. Then print the new file after listening.
Boot into el cap & MBP boots like it's the first time I have ever powered it up 😳 Asked to setup New Apple ID, login etc.. I get past that, my regular login screen pops up.. ok cool got it open...
Open Pro tools, spinning ball for 4 min.. Status bar was an 1/16 thru and kept hanging up on the plug in scan.. time is ticking.. I uninstalled and fresh installed all my plugs from the manufacturers sites ... took 30 min ( forever at this point ) and Waves would not show no matter what..
I was trippin. I used the same chain for all masters and all plugs & settings are inactive. Song is a dirty version of a clean master the client already has, so I couldn't just slap a whole new mastering chain on.. Was so stressed I literally bounced mono files and sent them ughhh .. Realized it immediately, called client while PRINTING stereo masters and went to re-send correct masters.. Of course, when it rain it pours, we transfer and it said 367 hours to send 2 WAV files when I had 9 minutes left 😡🙃😖 Finally got them sent in time..
Praise For CS: I have to praise Waves and Izotope, big time! Waves CS is open to 9pm & even some nights to midnight.. Wow 🤠 so happy I could speak with a real human. He knew his daws as well as everything else.. He was able to help me get everything working via accessing my computer remotely and get everything running in time!!! There would have been no way for me to complete this by the deadline if i didn't have waves CS help 😎🤘
On top of that I want to say Izotope gets huge praise as well.. When I started PT12, I had to basically activate Ozone like a new plug! Upon doing that all my settings were recalled and restored!!!! I could not believe it, was amazed and happy 😊
So to start this thread the right way! Give a brief description of your issues and list the companies who have gone above and beyond to help you and get you running in time of need 😀

🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Johnkenn Please delete ... was trying to praise some of our companies/ manufacturers here publicly but apparently others don't think this is important.. rowmatThis is the first time I have ever had an issue like this ever, I am Pro Tools certified for native and HDX, suffice to say I know the DAW well and have been using it 7-8 years... troll elsewhere please 🤔

It was a tongue in cheek comment. I haven't used Pro Tools for several years after switching to Reaper. Besides I was just referring to a piece of software in jest, I somehow doubt if I hurt its feelings. Some have bad hair days, sounds like you were having a bad DAW day!

I'll second Wave's tech support, they've been great when I needed them. Same with Slate, although it's very hard to get someone when you need it in real time.
Chase, did you find out why your MBP system was starting out like you'd never launched PT or installed your plug-ins before?

something you can do is always have a 2nd partition that is a clone of your work partition. if your main partition acts a fool, just boot into the backup partition, which has your daw and all of your plugins loaded and ready to go.

Chase, did you find out why your MBP system was starting out like you'd never launched PT or installed your plug-ins before? Unfortunately, No, and that is what worries me. Waves support is awesome and suggested contacting Apple if it happens again. They also said it may have something to do with time machine backup or other backup thing so looking into that as well. I don't want it to happen again, I will be contacting Apple tomorrow. It was so weird, it started like a brand new computer for the first time but when I skipped thru all of the setup/ naming/ Apple ID etc my login name was correct and same password for login.. Also my Apple ID was signed in once I logged in.. NoFilterChuck Thank you will look into this workflow more! I run OS X Lion and PT 10.3.1 for mixing off the 850 Evo SSD which replaced the Mac Hd spinner and PT 12.4 on El cap for mastering ( new meters and some newer mastering plugs aren't 32 bit ) Weird thing is, the issue was on my partitioned HDD OWC 3TB running 12.4 but this was the same folder and sessions that I had completed all the mastering work in less than a week prior.. The same boot disc was the one that had the session that I had done all of the mastering work. Literally same session, went to import new mix and print new master file but had a two hour detour 🤦♂️🙃😖 I am going to run all sessions off the 1TB partition on OWC drive b/c the OS X El Capitan boots off the 2TB OWC partition..

Well I recently cloned my HDD to an SSD with CCC and named the new drive the same and plugins were wacky and some unauthorized as well however they still showed, just had to be re- authorized. That's Native Instruments, Plugin Alliance, Brainworx, and one other I am forgetting.. Native Instruments say the don't support cloning if drives and recommend fresh install ...

Was hoping you would add some great info to this thread because I appreciate your experience and when you post 🤠🤘

I have a bootable clone drive. I update it everytime I get a new piece of software or a new plug. That way I can always access things if something really hits the fan.
Glad you were able to get the files to your client. That's a head scratcher for sure!!

I wasn't offended by any means, I started this thread to say thanks, because until yesterday ( and when my MBP battery fried ) I have never ever had to panic like that and go thru that Shit storm. Literally CS saved my ass and my reputation with this client, and the deadline was met 😎😊 I couldn't even ask for anything more so I started this thread to say thanks... Also, I could have cursed out PT and Avid but that would be very forgetful and not exactly fair of me considering the great performance I get daily and yearly as I mentioned earlier. Have a good day 🤘

Any hardware changes such as just updating to an SSD and then cloning the old drive to the new SSD could conceivably be interpreted by the software as an unauthorized installation if original install was linked to a system hardware profile at the time it was initially installed. something you can do is always have a 2nd partition that is a clone of your work partition. if your main partition acts a fool, just boot into the backup partition, which has your daw and all of your plugins loaded and ready to go. I appreciate you responding but earlier in the thread a few posts up I stated the drive that was acting up WAS NOT CLONED. The drive that was acting up had zero changes to it. It is the same drive I always use to boot into El Cap and master with PT 12.4 and my newer plugs, and was the same drive I completed the mastering project on with no issues. Several power up and shut down cycles and no issues, 21 songs, 21 different sessions, plus a final master session to globally treat level.. All of this was with the new battery already installed so no change there either. Thanks for the feedback...

Johnkenn can you please separate this thread from the hard drive talk from the CS appreciation by chance? Or maybe delete this whole thread so I can start over with CS appreciation, hopefully with less issues? Thanks

It's really not that big a deal. This board has a sense of humor and if you read many of the threads, you will notice that I let conversations take their natural course. It's great that you had fantastic customer service from Waves - that has now been documented. I have had really bad cs from them, so it's good that there are differing opinions.

Yeah - it was on like page five of searching for Customer Service...so it was buried.
