When I had Pod Farm 2, I would often use the effects on EGs...Load it up, put it on the EG Bus and I could put say a delay on one side and a verb on the other. Are there any plgu in hosts that allow you to load two plugs and then pan them left and right?

Do you mean a single stereo insert chain with a plug going to each side? Of all the DAWs I test, I've never seen it directly. You could get the effect in Pro Tools by setting up busses the right way, but I've never seen one chain that would do it. I'd think that delay compensation could be an issue.

A modular host like Audiomulch, Bidule, Metaplugin etc. should do it. Been using Audiomulch as my main software for nearly 18 years now, it's very easy to do.

And I'm sure this is the type of thing people always say Reaper can do, maybe give it a look too, for a more regular style DAW?

Studio One has a Splitter object that you can put in a stereo track's effects chain to visually split the left and right channels and put different plugin chains on each channel. You'd need to put a panning plugin after each effect if wanted to pan. In Cubase you can put the plugins that you want on a stereo track and then go to the Routing tab in the Inserts window and assign just the left and right channels to the specific plugins. You'd need to insert two panning plugins again and assign them to the left and right channels to be able to pan. I'm not as familiar with Reaper or Mixbus, but I believe they can do the same type of thing with their plugin pin features.

I've done this with certain effects in guitar rig. Not the same thing of course, as GR is the plugin, but if the included effects will get you what you need, it's an easy option.
