Seeing that people are saying they like the new ToTape5 as much or better than Magnetite, I decided to finally check out Airwindows. Mainly I'm just using Console4 on everything. For me it offers a big improvement in workflow and sound. I'm not sure what it's doing, but it gets the dynamics more of where I want them than fader riding with Waverider. I've used Patchwork to insert Console4 at the end of every channel and aux track with fx on it and ConsoleBuss at the beginning of every buss where tracks are routed. All faders set at unity gain just like Chris said. Then I tweak the level on Console a little bit where needed. The ToTape5 seems to integrate a lot of what's good about tape plugs without a lot of their drawbacks. Bite, Busscolors, PurestEcho, Purestgain, whatever I try seems to be useful. Lot of dither options. Anyone else use these?

My name is John and I can't hear the difference in Dither. There. I said it. I was not able to hear it till Ethan Winer showed the fact of dithering in an audio myths video on the dark side audio forum. BTW they kicked him out for his facts....

I really enjoy the Airwindows plugs and Chris sure seems like a lovely human being - great customer support, prolifically productive and engaged on forums too.
I think of his stuff as the complete inverse of UAD - rather than adding like UAD, it excels at subtraction - removing excess frequencies, digital crunchies, etc. - at least to my ear.
I find I really like Channel4 for its Neve setting. Whereas I use Omega N for generating low mid harmonic content on digital instruments, I find I really like the way Channel4 removes excess high and low stuff. The product video goes into great detail about things like mimicking slew rates, but I just really like what it does to things like mandolin, dulcimer, acoustic guitar, etc.
Big Airwindows fan.

From what I've seen, it's not his "facts" that instigate all the malice towards him. It's...uh...other stuff.

Hoping people reading this thread don't confuse Chris at Air Windows with all the bad stuff being said about Ethan Winer! Happy to stay out of that debate, there was terrible behaviour from both sides over at the WOMB forum a few years back.
As for Chris, what an absolute star, offering everything for free and asking for Patreon support instead. He built me a custom HPF (Hermepass) when I couldn't find anything current that fit the bill. I also use his NJAD dither, it hasn't come off the DAC sends to my analogue chain and monitors since it first came out. I am also very suspicious of the differences between dithers at normal listening levels, but it certainly didn't sound any worse than what I was using before, and it seems to sound a little better (although that could of course just be placebo/wishful thinking). The main reason was the crazy theory behind it though, worth reading about.

Try Paul Dither and then any other dither, to my ear Paul Dither is dark sounding and I like that....If this is placebo I am fine too.

Yeah, I didn't try PaulDither cos I'm happy with how cool NJAD sounds, but I don't really know if any of them have any "sound" at all at regular levels, haha!

Just used the hermepass in my latest attempt to make this band's old demo sound listenable. It was helpful. I found that the NJADCD sounded pretty different from just having the Oxford Limiter dither on.

I didn't believe that dither could make things sound different, but between Izotope and some others I can hear some difference if I A/B the same tracks with different dither settings. It's not going to significantly change the overall tone, but you can hear it that way.

My name is John and I can't hear the difference in Dither. There. I said it. My name is also John and -- Well, I only even care about "this" dither or "that" dither when I'm *testing* different dithering algorithms under insane conditions that no one would ever typically experience.

A few weeks mastering many projects through the new Studio Tan dither, NJAD 24 bit at 96kHz, on send to analogue chain, and after final limiting. I've noticed a definite improvement in smoothness of sound. It shouldn't make a difference, but it seems to. Those fade to blacks are to die for! My name is Gregg and I can hear the difference in Dither. There. I said it.
