Roswell Pro Audio, we're all curious if the winner has been announced and who the lucky person is.

Something I don't entirely understand - the post I responded to about the contest said it was a contest for RGO members. Was it, in fact, just a contest for whoever might have, at some time, signed up for the Roswell mailing list?

Well, it was for RGO members - and GS, and whoever.. False advertising? No. Deceptive or misleading? Yeah, a bit - but that's marketing. I certainly noted the absence of the word "exclusive" and considered the fact when I signed up. Another red flag: given the value of the mic it doesn't make enough business sense to offer the giveaway to a community of this size, unless perhaps there were additional hidden sponsors - like JK. And that didn't seem likely.

When I say "a bit," I'm simply referring to the fact that there was no mention that the offer was open to all, because I checked. If "targeted group marketing" means 'deliberate' omission of facts with the intention that some may bite because they think it's exclusive to the community, then I would call it misleading. The proof is in the pudding. There are members here who thought or assumed it was for the RG community only. My first impression was that it was. Deceptive or not, I acknowledge that the practice is pretty much the norm, or certainly ubiquitous. Consumer beware. Personally, I try to make a note of companies that cross my subjectively chosen line - It speaks to their corporate ethics.

One could argue all advertising is misleading! The mechanics of true exclusive offer are what you have to consider, you either need to send the info via exclusive messaging email or put the thing in a closed door area. If you put something up or read something in the public area of a public forum you have to realize it's not exclusive! Not totally disagreeing though I do wish there were far more honesty in advertising, when our industry was far smaller it was " here it is blah blah blah"! Miss those days

Was it, in fact, just a contest for whoever might have, at some time, signed up for the Roswell mailing list? I mirror this sentiment. At first it was billed for RGO members that why I signed up,I figured good odds! Then it's like, oh hey you're already signed up if you're on our mailing list...or on all these other sites.... And then people on here were still entering after it was already supposed to be drawn. Bogus if you ask me. ( no one did) haha

I get it guys, BUT something to consider, we need Manufacturers to help support this site, so dissing on a manufacturer who came here and included us in their promotion! While the wording may of implied exclusivity, we need to way the general fact that they did come to our corner and invited us to participate! We / John need them to support this place or we have to actively support this place to help foot the bill, so let's show how welcoming we can be and cut them a bit of slack!

The best thing about the net is everybody can say anything and everybody can see it. The worst thing is anybody can see what everybody had to say! All for keeping it real it's just I'm also always trying to convince Manufacturers that this place is a more efficient/ effective place to spend some ad coin vs GS, and I know what discourages them, I don't get a dime just want to keep the lights on!

I don't think anyone's bashing or genuinely upset. You're obviously somewhat biased being a former sales biz man. With that said, if a manufacturer is turned off because their potential customers don't like the fine print/ unclear marketing hypey bs game then they need to awaken to the market research.. what's the old adage? the customer is always right.... if it was the marketing department that was...welll....look no farther than the WH.

Yeah I am biased I'll admit to it, but you have to understand also when a manufacturer is spending his advertising $ he thinks he's the customer! As far as where one advertises this is one screwed up Buisness! Positive reviews are bought and payed for, threads are locked at certain sites, yes manufacturers have thinner skin than politicians most know it but as one distributor told me a month ago, " with smaller ad budgets my small wallet screams !" I like this place, I want to see it grow and John not have to support it out of his wallet.
