Nice, now you need one of these to make them rock!!!! I've been looking at the same set since they were announced. Then I spent some time at a nice studio in Nashville and they had some smaller Dyn's, but with this management system connected. We turned it off and then turned it back on...It was absolutely ridiculous the amazing difference it made. If anything, you have to demo one if you can, but then you will want it!! The Converters in the DBX driveracks are Garbage! Only DSP controllers that should be allowed on studio monitors are XTA & Dolby /Lake/ Clair! Maybe Carl Tatz knows something we don't? I'm not sure it was a stock DBX DriveRack though, Phantom Focus System, I couldn't believe my ears when the engineer engaged that thing! I just thought I would get the word out. It waa ridiculous how amazing the monitoring sounded, doesn't even sound close to the same monitors when engaged. In fact, It was so huge of an improvement, It sounded like something was wrong with the speakers when turned off. I have to look into these monitoring loudspeaker systems because they improve the sound of your monitors substantially.

On many systems the over all tools a DSP tuning box gives you can be truelly amazing, but anybody who has had the chance to compare the Lake/Dolby/Claeir or XTA next to any of the others has been impressed with the improvements they have brought to the table. In many ways it's depressing because the LDC & XTA haven't reinvented the converter , they simply are not cutting corners and sticking to the manufacturer's suggested implementation of Converter circuit. Even in the live world the only guys I know using the top DBX are endorsing it or got a awesome deal.

I spoke with the engineer/studio owner and he said Carl Tatz modified the DBX box to his specifications. I don't know exactly what he did though.

ragan thanks for the review, I pretty much decided on those two as well (after a long and draining search).. Seems like it might be worth taking a risk on the Dynaudio's.. One thing I'm looking for is a wide sound stage and decent instrumentation seperation, not sure if you've used Coax before but how do they stack ultimately?

I'm not Ragan but I have PreSonus Sceptre 8s
I love them. Great performance for the price.

Heheh, sorry @shadowamd, I'm not ignoring you I'm not sure what you mean about have I used coax before. You mean the wire/connection system or is that a specific type of monitor I'm not aware of? As for the LYD 48s, I am loving them. The imaging and separation is fantastic. I'm having an exponentially easier time mixing on them. Things are just clear. It's easy as hell to mentally zoom in on stuff and sort out layering and conflicts and general tone shaping and whatnot. I'm (clearly) a fan.

Specific type of monitor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_loudspeaker, quicker to read this than me explain it .. I've seen some regular speakers use waveguides to try and emulate coax's (like the JBL LSR's) but there's nothing quite like them really especially in the way of a two speaker setup giving you a 3D stereo image. I don't just mean it as a gimmick either, like my compressor sounds "3D".. I mean they actually do sound like a curved field that surrounds you where you can pinpoint instruments to the right and left of you.. If you've never used them, they sound weird.. But a good sort of weird. They do have their own set of issues and things can sound a little too wide, to the point it doesn't always translate well. I've always said a compromise would be best and when I heard a decent 3-way (Adam A77X) I got a glimpse of it.. Although the Adam's apparently do have a bit of issue with their sweetspot which won't be an easy transition for me, so if the Dynaudio's somewhat fix that I might be on a winner.. The only consideration is the size of the bass extension for the room I'm in, although I am moving to a bigger place and I can always roll it off I suppose / run them quieter. Work well at lower volumes? What about listening distances, would a metre do? Or are these more in the way of midfields?

Work well at lower volumes? What about listening distances, would a metre do? Or are these more in the way of midfields? Gotcha. Yeah I guess I did kind of know about those, just didn't place it. As for the Dyns, they work exceptionally well at low volumes in my opinion. And distance-wise, I am right up on mine. Desk against a (heavily treated) wall. I'm about 30-36" from the faces of them. Sweetspot seems large and forgiving. Center is solid and the image is wide and deep. The A77x's were just confusing to listen to. They sounded impressive, but I couldn't (at least compared to the Dyns) tell what the hell was going on. Things just felt looser and less distinct. And my main issue with them was probably the lack of a solid phantom center. Now, maybe they were just too big for my room. That could be part of it. But it wasn't a hard choice for me. The LYD 48s just outperformed the A77x's across the board, to my ear. I had the decision made as soon as I heard both, but gave it a few days to make sure I was making the right call and to make sure both sets were decently broken in.

To say we all "hear things differently", I agree 1000% with what you're saying about the A77X's.. I tried one of my mixes that had a boomy bottom end because of too much compression / 50hz - 80hz on the kicks. Now I knew there was a problem, but with the Adam's I didn't understand why there was a problem.. Still out of the Genelec's, Focals, Presonus (Eris), Yammies and SE's I tried they were still the best of the bunch..
Looks like I'll take a risk on the Dynaudio's.. Thanks chief.!

The new genelec coax are bad ass 8341 check those out if you can they are the little brother to the 8351.. Gebekec is sooooo expensive in the US.. They mark up their monitors over $2k from the euro to usd price actually I think it's even more than that like $2500 🤦♂️ I was really interested in their monitors at the euro price lol ($5500 for 8351 ) they are normally $8500 here ..

The last studio I visited in July had Dynaudio's and I really liked them. They weren't 3 way, but I think the smaller BM-5's. Not to mention the two subs in the walls on each side, sounded killer! I remember another studio I visited that had an Amek Rembrandt 48 desk with Dynaudio's BM15's. Sounded really nice. I think I'm a Dynaudio fan and just don't know it yet. I am checking out the PMC's right now!

John Willet who owns the distribution for Geithain did a good job convincing me to give them a punt, he's a super cool guy and very helpful. The Genelec's are more on par with Geithain's mid range in terms of cost, but all Geithain's are built / sound the same. So if you like it you know what you're getting.. It's between them and the Dynaudio LYD48's for me, that's if I can get my hands on the Dynaudio's..

At the request of Ragan, here was my thoughts on the Dynaudio LYD 48's.. I put them up against the ME's / FX8's / Equator D5's and this was after trying out like 20 other pairs of speakers. This is an excerpt if you want to read the rest it's over here: www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/1169919-fluid-audio-fx8-vs-equator-d5s-vs-dynaudio-lyd48s-vs-gethain-rl906s.html1. Dynaudio LYD48 (Three-way, 4" mid, 8" Woofer) I'm still waiting for these to break in properly, although straight out the box I was extremely impressed. They took all the best characteristics of the best monitors I tried and stuck it all in one box. The detail and clarity from top to bottom is impressive, to the point where a subtle effect in a song made me check if my house alarm was going off, that was a first. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between what I'd hear walking about to what these monitors were giving me. These certainly do not need a sub, with a low range of 32Hz you are well and truly covered. The stereo imaging is almost coax like, not quite as wide as some of the other monitors in this test but not far from either. Extremely accurate phantom centre, to the point where vocals actually stood out a little too much maybe? Ok, so I'm making these out to be the defacto standard in reference monitoring solutions.. As with all monitors they're not perfect, whilst the HF range is crystal clear if there's a problem with your mix or recording they can become a little fatiguing. You can argue of course that it's the mixes fault and you should sort it out, which is true but for general listening and anything set in stone (like references) or spending a long time fixing stuff it can start to dig at your ears. It can be somewhat uncomfortable, especially if you're like me (sensitive to HF responses). They are a little funny about placement, so are a lot of monitors though and you need a decent interface / desk to drive them. I tried them on a more "prosumer" interface and it did have a relative knock on, through the Soundcraft Mixer / Apogee Symphony we were cooking on gas.
