Why would you butcher a C12 for a 5751... They're still selling 6072A's right now!

Could you imagine if you had a job that made - even - say, a million a year. This hobby would be peanuts. Again, it's becoming clear to me that I need a real job to support this habit. What do you mean "if"?

Let me just say a certain fellow over here in Oz managed to collect a vast quantity of some of the most esoteric vintage audio gear on the planet mainly because his background was NOT the music biz. Think mining leases, uranium etc. Depressing I know but...

That's the crux of it!!! There are COLLECTOR'S and then there are professional musician's, engineers and producers.
Just because someone owns a $35,000 Martin guitar doesn't make them a songwriter.
With that much old gear you need a full-time tech to maintain it all.
Some folks have more money than brains in my experience.
McCartney doesn't have a collection like that I bet!!!
Cheers, Dave

Cheers, Dave This guy is a collector for sure (he collects a bunch of other stuff) but in this case he was setting up a recording studio for his musician son. In the end his son decided he didn't want to run a recording studio and moved interstate. His father has been gradually selling off the gear over the last several years. I had a lengthy talk to him on the phone about a year ago. A lot of the stuff was not just the usual vintage stuff we all know tube Neumanns, AKG's, Fairchild 670's etc. but included some rare and odd stuff as well. His argument was to find great gear that almost no one else has.

IIRC correctly he had a Joe Meek EQ or comp and the Comp used on My Generation...also, he had his gear spectacularly maintained by the best in Oz. He should have adopted ME!!! 8) cheers Wiz
