The mic pre one is the A-Range circuit only with a Jensen input transformer and a THAT balanced output driver. I am still very impressed. I understand the consoles also didn't use output transformers. I thought the old version of the console had the Transformer & the new console used the THAT / Jensen driver.

I forget who told me that the Trident A-Range console didn't use output transformers. I think they were even unbalanced. It made sense because in the early '70s many studios were removing transformers and the distance between the console and tape recorder was minimal.
THAT is the successor to DBX. They make VCA, mike preamp and line driver chips.

I commissioned, Geoff to design and build the first Daking 52270 Console.
It had transformers on the Mic & Line inputs as well as the outputs. I think I also was the only one with a fully transformer balanced monitor section... He later changed the monitor section to "THAT" chips, for the following consoles.

And for what its worth imo the whole A Range thing is waay overhyped.they were good but not holy grail etc. still preferred my vintage 1084's over the vintage A Ranges.

Bit of a qc issue in the earlier ones ( gain light pcb )but they did resolve it. Loads of headroom and clear gain - it loves ribbon mics. Not a classic studio shape tho' if that's important to you?

The paint job was too loud for my taste.

Key parts may no longer be made. That's a problem with lots of early solid state gear.

I'm looking at RTZ 9672 and Great River mp2nv.. the latter I can find used which would be cheaper. Both Neve - esque flavors .. They both rock!!!! Can't go wrong with either...I say get both if you can!!!
