You see this? Also, any PT users having issues? I've been reading about spikes that are super loud. I'm curious about this, but don't know if I wanna risk blowing my monitor. But of propaganda here huh? I think the nicest part of GOLD is the ability to change emulations and get different eq points. That's said, I'll have to try this test for myself. Not that the Slate sounds 'better' in that comparo. A little more pointed than the Gold. I kinda liked the Gold, but both were useable.

Haven't listened to the video, but read about it. Some people saying they couldn't tell the difference. Definitely digging he comp a little more and the pres do really add some low end (on the pres). I'll say again, the top end shelf on Pearl2 is just unbelievable. Haven't had that revelation with the gold yet.

Again, haven't watched the video yet, but I think the way to judge the EQ is to see how it sounds when really pushed to extremes. That's the difference (whether placebo or not) that I've noticed with Acqua. And I think that's why people say it's more analog. It has this forgiving nature like HW that doesn't futz with the rest of the signal. Like when you're boosting 12khz with HW, it doesn't take over the entire signal. It just sweetens the top. Seems like plug EQ takes over the entire signal and as some say, sounds more 2D...doesn't "bond" with the rest of the signal.

As for weird sounds, distortions, spikes... Giancarlo wrote somewhere, that the plugins are meant to be fed with -18dBfs input level. And this is to be taken very seriously to get best results. Many use different levels, some recommend -16 dBfs in general for the digital world, others a quiet -20 dBfs. Stay by the recommended input level of -18 dBfs and not somewhere else when using Nebula/Acqua plugins, and you are ... golden. I guess you can expect no problems with this, i had such problems only when driving too hot.

PS: -18 dBfs is also the EBU recommendation for the input level calibration of digital audio systems for european broadcast, independent of the bit depth of the equipment. (R68-2000) Possibly Giancarlo chose this to comply to this recommendation / hardware standard. Would make sense.

All the level-math confuses me. Seriously...dbu, vu, rms, dbfushgfj...I've just been making sure I was gain staging properly and if I start getting any kind of artifact, I just turn down.

"trust me, i'm an engineer". LOL If i want accurate best results, and i get such precise recommendation like this one, i simply clamp a meter before the plugin level in and that's it. Not really math. dBfs: level in reference to digital fullscale in your DAW. Don't worry ... upset brain cells are pretty normal in this area ... :-)
