I have never been able to treat a DAW like a mixer. It's why I avoid using DAWs and have a music partner who handles that stuff. I can't just reach out and grab a knob, let alone grab a couple of knobs on different tracks (or busses, or whatever). If I had one of those Slate Raven things that might get me closer, but there's just too much stuff that's not on the surface. The typical control surface doesn't help much - there's lots of faders (on the big ones) but still only one or two channels worth of little knobs and the functions of those knobs keeps changing which makes me think about things - things which are not the music. If I wanted to think abouit running a damn computer I'd get a job in a frikken' office doing IT. But I don't. I want things absolutely intuitive and I don't wanmt top be forced to think about what I'm doing. It's like being "in the zone" when you're playing an instrument. Thinking takes you out of the zone. I need the feel of the knobs under my fingers - knobs attached to real pots, not rotary encoders. I cue my moves off of tactile sensations and rotary encoders have no "hard zero". I cue my fader moves off the position of my little finger resting on the surface of the board, which gives me a point to base the relative position of the fader on. I really don't understand how people can work intuitively on a DAW or a programmable control surface. I don't want to pause what I'm doing to shuffle through nested menus. If I have to do that I've lost the feel for whatever it was I was trying to do in the first place. Ahh man I've been at this a long time but all I've ever known is a daw; be it PT 7 or cool edit pro! My first intern then legit engineer gig in a facility was as the 'pro tools specialist'. lol. Well, I guess a "long time" is relative - I started out doing live sound on a Bogen Challanger PA amp. Then I got one of those little Shure M67 mixers so I could run 4 mics into one input. I knew then that I'd become professional because it said so right under the meter. Next came the Shure Vocal Disasters and then a Traynor YVM-6 with EQ knobs and everything - used that for both PA and recording demos into the Viking 88 stereo tape machine - one of those upside-down ones with the heads at the top of the faceplate so gravity would help hold the tape against the heads. Fast forward 15 or 20 years into the future, I was mixing on a RAMSA WRT-20 and getting into desktop video with an Amiga Video Toaster system with an A-B roll editing rig using surplus U-Matic decks and S-VHS . The Amiga was probably the first desktop computer that had an available multitrack hard disk recording system that actually worked, so I got that to do sound with the videos. It came with one of the first versions of Samplitude, my first DAW. It could actually record 4 whole tracks! (I still have that box in storage but it needs a replacement accelerator card....) I guess that was probably around '91 or '92. My first DAW. I've hated them ever since.

Console 1: Fixed the FFT freeze when loading the UAD plugins in 48 kHz using the Summit Audio Grand Channel Console 1: Improved the USB re-connection behavior. Console 1: The Console 1 On-Screen Display now detects if the connection to the Console 1 hardware has been lost and closes the GUI. btw the recent ST update which includes all ua 1176 and zener also gives them all parallel comp and mix!
"Oh, and they all get parallel compression in Console 1!"

'cos the Zener can be a bit "absolute" at times ... so to be able to that dial in to taste would be great :-) Yet another reason to get me a Console 1... will be pulling the trigger on it soon I would say Just need to figure out where this sits in my as-yet-un-built studio desk.... but it was in last nights pencil sketch of my desk and racks so it's very much in contention.

Hey kcatthedog, do you have any other Softube plug-ins that you're using with console 1? How are those integrating with the controller?

I haven't bought any other ST plugs yet but loading other plugs ins is straight forward.
On console one you have a shift button for secondary functions.
When you shift the first 5 channel select buttons now pull up the menus of the different plugs by type, eg., eq. Then you use the volume rotary, far right to scroll through( they are highlighted) and then you use the another button to select and to load. Same process as using UA plugs in: works perfectly.
Console 1 is basically just designed very well, after a couple of days, it becomes second nature to use.

Hey, kids!
Any updates on Console 1 and/or Faderport 8?
I've been looking at 'em both and drooling a lot lately.
I've got to stop using my eyes so much. Live mixes are relatively simple for me compared to the studio stuff - I think I attribute that to looking at/reading screens and using a mouse. I JUST WANT TO TWIST KNOBS AND PUSH FADERS DAMMIT!!!!!
Anyone find more good/bad in these things? Anyone using 'em with Reaper (my current DAW of choice but, if one of them worked extremely well with one or both those controls, I'd be willing to switch)?

Hey, kids! Any updates on Console 1 and/or Faderport 8? Console 1 is just wonderful, both the workflow and the sound. Just amazing. I use it with Logic Pro X. Since I got it, I'm getting rid of a lot of plugins, specially Slate stuff.

Are you talking about for live recording and mixing or studio as well? Studio. At my live gig, we have a Soundcraft GB24-4. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done for our small room. For the studio, I'd love to have at least 8 busses and a variable hi pass filter.

Since I got it, I'm getting rid of a lot of plugins, specially Slate stuff. I am using both Console 1 and the Faderport 8 primarily with Studio One. They play well together. Nothing against Slate stuff, but I have not used a Slate plugin since I got Console 1 and my Silverbullet.
