Anybody try both. If so, what was your impression?
The Waves is on sale at Plugin Discounts for $74.24. I demo'd it and liked it, but I've already demo'd the UAD EMT 140. So, I couldn't really do and a/b like I'd like to.
BTW: It would help these company's imo if they would let you re-demo after a period of time. I demo'd both the 140 and 250 about three years ago and bought the 250. So, having demo'd the 140 I can't do it again. I may pull the trigger on the Waves because it's half the price of the UAD.

No UAD, but really dig the Waves. PSP 2445 is a killer character verb too.

If you buy any UAD plugin, the demos start over.

I use the Altiverb EMT 140 all the time and really like it. I've never compared it to the Waves or UAD though.

I think this plugin is one of the only or very few instances where Waves is better than UAD... the UAD 140 is many years old by now and the Waves plate really seems to be closer to the real thing to my ear. It does use some CPU though. I hope UAD takes this opportunity to update their 140 using the new techniques they used for the BX20 which is clearly a few steps above.

Yeah the Waves sounds really great. I tend to find myself using the UAD just because it's been my goto for so long...

Did Waves ever improve the CPU usage issues that many early adopters were complaining about, or is that just the nature of the emulation?
As far as an in-general plate reverb emulation goes, has anyone compared it with Valhalla Plate?

I demoed the Valhalla Plate for a few days and it was fantastic. Just already had the Waves and UAD. Same thing with the Fabfilter Reverb.

I contacted UAD support about allowing me to try the EMT 140 again and they reset it so I can. Good customer support.

You have to wonder what the next steps for UA as a whole is gonna be. I mean, what direction can you go at this point?

Seems to me that they're as integrated a company as any in the music business: Classic hardware/Plugins/Audio Interfaces. Their brand name is up there with Neve. I don't know what their books look like, but I'd be surprised if they're not a very healthy company financially that could expand in other areas. I guess we'll see.

I just wonder what those areas are.

I just wonder what those areas are. Exactly.... they are not building La3a anymore and you have to wonder how much longer they will manufacture the 1176 now that Warm, hairball, and KT have pretty damn good affordable clones.. UAD has been targeting the home / project studio for awhile. My Apollo has no preamp sends, so unless I use an external preamp I cannot track with compression into PT without a converter pass ( Set the output of the preamp channel in console to an output ( 5 ) and feed that into your comp and the output of the comin into the line input ) That's not professional level at all... Plus how many more iconic HW pieces are there they can emulate via SW..Some ideas: The Gates sta level and 176 would be cool 175 B Great river mixmaster 20 plugin Distressor I'm sure they will do more amp sims SonTec mastering eq Want to see them continue to be successful while expanding into other areas, I just don't know what those would be. I really hope they aren't working on UAD mic emlations, I assumed after having unison that was the next step. Idk how it would compete with Slate and his pricing ( im not really keen on mic emus )

Seems like they're taking the "Neumann" approach with the mic pre sends..."why do you need a real compressor when you could use a UAD plugin?"

I like both of them fairly well. I think they are different enough to be different, equally useful tools. Like having two different plates.

I own and use the UAD EMT 140 and really like it. The room setting works great on acoustic guitars and drums. Lately, I've demoed the Waves Abbey Road on a rather crowed mix in place of the UAD . Feels good to me. I do prefer the UAD ergonomic, but sound wise, the Waves seems to fit (a little) better in dense mixes. But the warmth of the UAD on small ensembles is second to none, to my taste. May I say I'm not a reverb guy?
