just wondering about the good, the bad and the ugly of this, any horror stories of really bad chassis to stay away from and or good value ? I am thinking about the larger 10 slot, including our friend Jeff at Capi, of course

Best Value :
CAPI VPR 11 sp rack - unfortunately out of stock for awhile.... :-(
With
Collectivecases.com (Dan Deurloo's) 500 power supply and DC Power Box as an addition.

I am a big fan of the RTZ racks. They are more expensive than most, but they are built to go to war and have fans drawing cool air across all of the modules, making them last longer and run at optimum for years and years.

I have an API 10-slot and a BAE 11-slot, and I have not ever had a problem with either one.

If you're a DIY kinda guy and aren't in a hurry I would definately look at Jeff's 11 slot VPR rack and floor mount supply.

CAPI all the way...
My first 6 space rack was the Lindell, which crapped out just after the warranty expired and I can't get a straight answer from anyone where I can get it serviced...
Built the CAPI now I can sleep comfortably at night.

Anyone using any of the Radial stuff? I have a six-pack. Solid, no issues and travels with me fairly often.

Love my Purple Sweet10. Nice for a mobile rack if you want an integrated power supply. Lots of good options out there these days!

I plan on selling my API Hc 6 slot down the line and building an 11 Capi. As for the power supply is Dan Deurloo's DC power box worth the extra coin?

Anyone using any of the Radial stuff? I picked up a Workhorse 5000 right after they came out. I had been chomping at the bit, waiting for months for them to actually start shipping them; the one I wound up with wound up with is serial # 0000008. I think that was in 2011 even though they had announced the product in early 2009. So far it's been an absolute pleasure to use. Very solid & well built. The mixer section of it has lot of utilitarian flexibility and has a great sound of it's own. If you're using gear with D-sub i/o you'll find it's well implemented. I did have one QC incident early on where one of the buses went down- but it was well covered by the warranty and the turnaround on the service was so fast it didn't leave any scar as far as I was concerned. For a serial number that low I'm not surprised it might actually need a warranty tweak - that's what I get for having no self control! Sometimes I do scratch my head a little about the power supply it uses though; a line-wart... really? But then I'll start using it and it becomes academic pretty quick.

All interesting thx guys.
I notice some chassis have multiple i/o like radial, so does this allow you to use the chassis/module as in insert ? So, you could say send a pre to an eq in a chassis and then out of the chassis to an OB comp and then back to the chassis to your patchbay/daw ?

Here is a new and interesting option. www.frontendaudio.com/Trident-Deca-Dent-500-Series-Power-Supply-p/9999-17637.htmIt has XLR and 1/4 inch combi jacks as well as Dsub. It also has switches to send the output of one channel to the input of another without the need for patching. It also has switches for stereo linking channels.

I have a pair of CAPI 51x chassis and PSUs. I converted one of the PSUs to dual VPR, so I am powering both racks from one PSU at the moment with no 24V rail. The other PSU is wired for 16v and 24V. I also have an unbuilt chassis kit sitting in the closet for when I get into a place/desk with the capacity to mount it.

I plan on selling my API Hc 6 slot down the line and building an 11 Capi. As for the power supply is Dan Deurloo's DC power box worth the extra coin? Well someone needed my ol 6 HC and long story short I'm now swollen with cash and no lunchbox. Any word on on the dc power box cleaning up the signal... noticeable improvement? Also those PSU 1's fully power 11 modules if I've read elsewhere, correct? I'm IMPATIENTLY awaiting for CAPI to restock on litz's for 28's AND the new 11 Rack's... so I'm thinking about maybe beating the rush and ordering the PSU & Dc Box as the wait continues....
