Here's my best vote of confidence for the Chandler...it doesn't need Shannon. Haha.. definitely wouldn't change a thing. another cool thing about the chandler is its one of the most EQ friendliest mics I've used in a long time. we tried a 550 then a pultec after it and got all sorts of goodness. if needed the contour switch really gives it a nice little lift over 4k putting it more towards C12/251 territory. it really just becomes a taste/preference thing at that point.

I've noticed that sometimes with some mics, you start carving out problem areas and then the other frequencies tend to suffer as well. It ends up being like "whack-a-mole." Is that what people mean?

Ive been working with this one guy.super powerful baritone voice.but he's got this 2k nasal thing no mic really gets rid of.47,ribbon etc.havent tried the redd on him yet but I always end up pulling some 2-3k out with fabfilter pro-Q. so far haven't notched away anything on the redd, just little boosts up top.today on one guy we liked a half db on the 5k pultec shelf.

Yeah between those two I'd get the redd. If I didn't already have an Upton... roundbadge , you need to get to know Shannon. If you didn't have the Upton you'd go with the Redd? I saw on the "67" thread that you were also considering that one (Max i/o) ... maybe? Knowing that you haven't A/B'd the Upton & the Redd it seems you're very (beyond) impressed with this one? Am very curious about your memory & the sounds of these. Eventually I think you'll get to A/B 'em. I had the Max I/O here next to my real 67 last saturday.the Max version was quite a bit darker. Save

It's funny ericn, Brauner does make their own capsules now and have been for a while. All of Bock's capsules are made by MBHO who used to make Brauner's capsules.

Not as bad in the second (lyrics are hilarious). Interesting mic, the Redd. It doesn't have the phase shift of CK12 type, or the same mid push of M7/K47/Bock/Flea designs. Yet to me it sounds most like a Neumann opened up. Very soft non-sibilance and crazy harmonics. Be curious to hear Chandler vs M269C, C12a and C37a, and of course, the Bock 47, since that has quite a bit of low end. I guess the real question for me is whether it will usually beat a 47 type in mix context.

First track, I like the REDD, second track, The ELAM 251. I think it's voice dependent, they're all superb. The Redd on track 3 sounded thin, on track 1, lush.
Only listened on computer speakers, so I'm reserving the right to change opinion when I put my monitors on ;-)
Great tracks Joseph, thanks.

I think I'll grab a bock 251 and new U99 to compare as well. The Tele 251 does nothing for me.. especially at 8.5 grand.

I liked the 251 better on both examples, but I concur it was more unnatural. There was something more appealing and sexy, yet less good technically. That being said, I think I would like the REDD more once I have to put it in a mix. I feel it would blend more easily, and the sexiness I like on that raw track of the 251 could be achieved with some tweaking on the REDD. And even if I liked the 251 better in those examples, I did not like it 4000$ better.

Wow I thought they still used MBHO and others, they must have gotten it right given that useually such a change results in a whole bunch of which is better threads!

Keep in mind, the REDD Microphone has a degree of interactivity between the features- Norm, Drive, Standard and Low-Contour voicing, together these allow for different characters to be had.

The originals (if properly maintained and not modded to open up the HF) ARE in fact dark. Zero doubt about that.

Here's my best vote of confidence for the Chandler...it doesn't need Shannon. Have you used the Chandler mic as much as you have used the Upton in your room? When are you purchasing the Redd mic 😃?? If the Upton mic could speak it would call u a traitor with its feelings hurt 😭 That would be crazy if you sold the Upton for the Redd mic then eventually bought another Upton to replace the Redd mic ( or keep both 🤑😬 )
