It sounds a little thick in that example, excellent fr sure. Kind of U47-ish, but different. I don't want to judge too quickly, and I'd love to hear more samples. I hat to say it because I can't tell if I'm projecting, but I thought of McCartney's sound when using a U67..
Still way too little to get a feel yet. Hopefully we'll hear some vocals with a much stronger singer. Even some excellent mics reveal their shortcomings when really hit, while others show just how good they are.
Case in point, the Soyuz 0-17 handled the loudest parts a little more gracefully than the Soyuz 0-19 FET version. The 0-19 FET sounds great, but that's what the $1,200 difference buys you.

I think JK Johnkenn and Randge can opine on how hard they both hit the mic; those boys have some lungs. ChaseUTB the stuff from Japan, I think our distributor just lent the duo Fullmoon the mic for their show; I don't know anymore about it, just thought it was kinda of cool.

I'd rather have that roundness to start and then massage for pop vox. Add some top maybe, pull down the mids

Kind of like, when you have a cold and are congested, a U87 or U47 is your friend but a U67 is your enemy? Do you know what I'm referring to here... tonal qualities, I mean, and the accentuating of certain things.

I apologize for my assumptions π€¦ββοΈ To me ... I thought the distributor had filmed, produced, and taken part of the overall presentation and sounds. No doubt when @johnkenn tells me it's a damn good mic I believe him, plus I know the quality of Chandler gear is stellar π€π€ I definitely need to put one through its paces, I don't know if any Studios in ATL with one...

MONO MALE VCL/AC GTR - REDD Microphone direct to Pro Tools
I hope this didn't get mangled by Soundcloud... The REDD Microphone in mono, directly into Pro Tools, capturing Ben Danaher, playing and singing at Ryan Hewitt's studio in Nashville during the listening session for the mic. This was the standard voicing at +27db, cardioid and drive mode, 3 feet away pointed at the artist's chest, UAD EMT 140 plate for ambience.
The mic controls are interactive and you can get several different sounds. For example, the low-contour voicing would suck in the gut/bottom and push out the chest and head for more sparkle, couple that with normal or drive mode and you get a different result etc...

Argh! I'm lusting after this mic. I've got an ADK Z-Mod 67 and one of Shannons custom 251's. Tell me I don't need this. Tell me I shouldn't sell what I have to fund this. Talk me down!

You need to audition the chandler with the mics you are wanting to sell in your place before selling or buying anything; well I know most shops sell you the mic then return it for " free". I can't stand people who have messed up demo policies for real customers...ππ Speaking of which I am pretty positive you would need to pay in full b4 Chandler dealers send out demo mics, idk never demoed a chandler mic before. Off topic : without a huge credit card or sum of $,' how would one get a real u47, u67, flea 47, upton 251, vintage c12..to test to purchase? You can't rent the vintage ones if you looking to purchase b/c each vintage mic ( hand built mic ) sounds different, same with monitors; get a pair of ATC, PMC, Kii Three, Amphion, and Barefoots in your room to shootout against each other) ya VK is cool but that not your room and monitors will sound different in each respective room setup depending on treatment, position, material, objects in room and setup.

Chase, you'd have to do what I did. Go to a really great studio that has those classic mics, sing and play, listen back, and you'll know in seconds which mic you like better. The variables don't get in the way, you'll just know. I tried a mint U47, M49, C12, U67, Blackspade UM-17R, and Soyuz 0-19. The U47 was flawless, but the character of the U67 suited my voice best. The Soyuz came in 3rd, after the 67 and 47. I think because the K67 style capsule is a big part of why the U67 sounds so good for me, and the Soyuz has a similar capsule.

Yeah, it's fat but still has that wonderful top without the need to de-ess. De-essing is usually only needed when there is excess of 6k to 7k. That's sibilance's actual address. The bitch.

In my Gearpimp days clients would introduce me as their crack dealer ! Funny thing the other day at my pain Dr appt, my Dr says" you do realize you probably are one of the few people who can say you have leagaly done more Narcotics than Jerry Garcia or Keith Richards ?" That's my pusher , but it gets me out of bed!

Yes but those exact mics that I just tested in that studio aren't for sale and any other u47/ m49 / u67 etc will sound different there for unless that studio was selling one of the mics that would work! However most studios know their mic locker is one reason of a few that also keep clients ( educated clients ) comin back to the studio! I would love to go to Tree Sound and test out their vintage mics but that wouldn't do me good if Blackbird was selling one of their vintage mics.. sorry hope I made some sense. Basically every vintage mic sounds different so testing one vintage mic to then purchase a different model number of the same vintage mic is mybdefinition of a hamster wheel π Hey MJB can you please just buy the Soyuz and make some killer tunes π You love that mic and always rave about it plus u have used it extensively in your studio and knownthe results you can get with it! U67 is not practical for you or me even though we want one π

U67 is not practical for you or me even though we want one π Your right every vintage mic at this point has some of its own personality, but all M7 M49a's have a certain familiarity you will recognize, that's what gets you wanting a 251, c12, u47 etc. You rent from Blackbird, you will get to know the family, you have the advantage of being able to give Shannon a shout and being able to talk about that mic and the possibility of something close. You also don't buy a $10,000 + mic on eBay unless your stupid, you buy from somebody like VK, yeah it will cost more but, they will cover your ass, or through somebody like Klaus or Shannon who can help you through the process and you listen to their advice , think with your big brain not your audio hard on. Most of the horror stories you hear, are guys who either tried to save a buck or didn't do their homework. You want to buy a mic that will sound like any other and save a buck? Buy a Flea.
