Does anyone have this mic? Just looking for opinions from people are still using them regularly.

I still have my pair, yeah. I like them quite a bit. Meaty, soft top. They're very much in the U87 vein, though they don't quite have the Neumann's clarity.

IMHO they are decent mic's for the cost, but I'm not exactly gushing over it saying it's as good as mic's three times it's price. It's kinda in the same vain as my Mojave Fet which again I do like but then again it isn't the best mic I've heard under $600 - $700..

I have a warbler vi without the pattern options. Have a chance at a pair of the 1d for about $600. Contemplating.....

Why is the gz67 fet preferable?

Why is the gz67 fet preferable? Well a little bit of preference in the voicing, it's more like a U67 / M269.. Also in terms of quality it's a step up, better clarity / detail etc. It's sort of the next step up in the 3U audio mic's, the Warbler is decent for the price but the GZ is just a good mic irrelevant.

Okay I will throw a spanner in the works. I owned a Vintage U87 and I bought a MK1D. Initially used it for voice work. I thought there was a similar sound between the two. But it was not as close as I thought it was going to be. I was not disappointed as it was not a lot of money at the time. SO recently I started down the U67 track and I thought hey why not buy the GZ67fet - seems to get good reviews by people. It uses the same capsule as the MK1D and yes it has a similar sound to the MK1D. Well the GZ67fet arrived and I tested it out with another U67 competitor and the MK1D and I was left feeling underwhelmed. The best way to describe it is like this. The MK1D has 3 x voice selector I feel the GZ67fet could be the 4th voice selector of the MK1D. The differences were not night and day but very subtle. With a 65-70% surcharge on the MK1D I guess I was expecting a little more wow factor then maybe the 10-15%ish different sound it produced from the MK1D. Maybe I have been spoiled over the years as I have had some nice mics, maybe I need to spend more time testing it but I usually go with my first gut reaction on these things. So I am in the process of possibly returning the mic due to GZ's great return policy. Unfortunately now I need to debate whether returning it to China and following some specific instructions is going to be a safe option. I have bought some other u67 variants and they should arrive any day so I keep being told. SO hey drop me a Pm if you 'd like and I can let you know about what I think about them. These comments are from my own personal experience with spending actual time with these mics and are at the end of the day just my own opinion in my specific environment they way I like things to be.

These opinions are precisely what i want to read. Thanks guys What do you want them for? I bought my pair of MKID's specifically for drum OH and general utility work. I have used them for main vox and ac guitar. Depending on the source there may be a bit of wooffy ness to them. For me they are great for drums, and AC guitar. I picked up a GZ251 and MKV. The 251 has lots of clarity, the MKV is like a good ribbon but cardioid and shares a little wooffy ness with the MKID. I have not done a lot of testing with these yet.

utility. I'm on a stereo room mic kick lately. Thinking they would be better than my 4050s. Not that. Would sell the at4050 either way.
Thinking now that money might be better spent elsewhere.

I sold my Pair of 4050s and had no regrets. I was always fighting their zing(detail). I had mine for years but finally parted ways.

I have a pair of MKID's and a pair of GZ47fet V's.
I reviewed the new Delphos mic from Roswell Pro Audio in the current TapeOp. That's a great mic. I used them with great success on drum room as well as AC GTR and VOX. All around great mics.

Indiehoue,
I'm not in the market for a $900 mic.
How do you like the mk1d's? And vs the gz67fet?

Indiehoue, I'm not in the market for a $900 mic. How do you like the mk1d's? And vs the gz67fet? Right on. I guess I was talking in terms of mics that punch above their price point. The GZ's are $600, so it's not that far off. Plus, you get a nice flight case and shock mount, which is left out of the 3U mics But anyways, I like the MKID's just fine. Nice utility mics that doesn't break the bank. The GZ47fet V's are pretty great. Kidvybes told me that of all the 3 U mics, these are something special. I bought a pair after he passed. They are indeed pretty great. Very happy. I think it's not a fair comparison to judge the MKID next to a vintage U87, as the above poster commented. It's a useful mic at a great price and deserves to be auditioned, if that's your price range. You're going to have to spend a lot more to get something better.

That's where I disagree, go pick up a Samson MTR 231.. I've seen them hanging about for $140.00. which is chump change in terms of mic's. If you don't like them feel free to rant at me and send it my way as I wouldn't mind a couple more of them. You haven't lost much... You even get a free birth control via DHEP, although I gather you'd be fine if you don't eat said mic or mistake it for a lollipop..

What I'd be interested in hearing is the 3U vs Warm87/Stam87.

Given the symbiotic relationship between Roswell and MicParts, I have been wondering if the Delphos utilizes the MicParts V57 transformerless circuit and their RK87 capsule.

terryrocks Sorry Terry, I've been having issues with my Audio interface.. I upgraded the firmware / drivers and it just keeps throwing a wobbler constantly (to use thunderbolt). I may have to just chuck something together but I'll get you something soon.!

If anyone wants a MK1D in the UK, you can have it for £240.00 (including shipping) I already have a Mojave Fet so I'm covered for a darker vocal mic.
