Our new YouTube video conclusion to our Emulations vs Clones series. Flea 47 sounds great, but I can fully appreciate what a 49 does for your voice. Thanks for doing this, Vincent.

Just spent a few days working with the 414 and FET47 models on overheads and bass drum/vocals respectively. Seriously impressed with these mics. The 414s are great on drums. Very clear and flattering picture of the kit, with just the right amount of top end to give you what you need without being annoying. Sounded really nice in our vocal shootout too, but was ultimately beaten out by the FET47.
Im extremely impressed with that one on vocals. Chain was 47 - lola (with ba512 doa’s) - purple odd - Chandler Little Devil compressor - Audioscape opto comp. I didn’t actually use any EQ. It was perfect as-is. I think just a bit of HPF and it’ll be a wrap.
I The midrange is incredible. It has a classic tone for sure. Zero sibilance. Nice soft high end that gives that lisp-y quality that sounds very familiar.
Def picking up the 47 in the near future. I think the 414s will prove to be excellent all-arounders. Looking forward to using them again.

So here's a fun story. I acquired a pair of old CM67's that had the old army green case. One of the mics was a bit noisy and as I was exploring and switching the tube out I managed to break off a lead to the capsule. It wasn't the first time the mic was explored so maybe I was the straw that broke the camels capsule so to speak. I called Scotty at AA and he said he would bring it back up to speed for me. I shipped them out after paying UPS more than I wanted to and when they arrived in Canada the were damp, waterlogged and repackaged. I started filing a claim because for some unbeknownst reason I actually insured the package. One of the capsules was shot, so after discussing with Scotty, I opted to replace both capsules with the AK12 capsule since the body was a C12 shape. So now my pair of 67's will become a pair of C12's. I'm excited to hear how they turned out. I'm wondering how they compare to my main vocal mic for the last couple of years which is the Stellar CM6. I seem to have drama every time I ship something and unlike loosing my mics for 3 years to Shannon I have high hopes of getting these back. Scotty and the guys at AA were outstanding through the process.

It's the same mic as the Stellar CM-5 (rolling off the same factory line) but with C9 and C10 caps removed and a 5:1 transformer instead of the 251-style 12:1 transformer that the CM-5 uses. I know a very good engineer whose made records we've all heard and he really likes his pair of AA CM251s.

There never seems to be much talk about the 414. I'm glad to know you dig them. Years ago my vibes were recorded with 414EBs and they just sounded fantastic. Its good to know AA's version seems solid.
