Maybe I should try it again. I've probably been listening more to what tone these things impart than whether they're doing their job as comps.

I went for the Zener Limiter last night, myself. I went back and forth between the two. The Zener oozes character that I can't get from anything else I have. The 2500 is cool, but I've got some other stereo VCA hardware comps that I can substitute. Of all the things I read about the 2500, the common review is that guys are keeping them on the drum buss, mostly.

No, I had a 50% off coupon. But I did just see they put it on sale today. Coupon expired last night.

That it would be an obviosly good choice on the drum bus, because it adds so much energy. But I've got about ten master bus compressors, and there's something about this one that's getting me much closer to sounding like I was in the studio.
It has the smoothest high-end of any compressor I've heard yet and I've heard so many I've lost count. The unusual thing, is that it's not diminishing the high end, or doing that fake "vintage sound" thing so many plug-ins do when they're mainly just rolling off the highs. With the 2500, the high-end is just not adding that weird digital edge that I'm so used to.
It's a huge difference that's not so obvious at first. Every plug in compressor I have adds a little edge I wish they didn't have, this the first one I don't feel that with, so my tracks are more listenable.
It's new, so the jury is still out, but it sounds promising so far.

But now I'm second guessing myself. Damn. Nah, that Zener is pretty bad ass. Definitely a color I didn't have, and it's going to get some use, for sure.

From the way the plug sounds, the 2500 hardware must be seriously sick.

Yeah the hardware sounds great. But I do like the wet/dry mix knob on the plugin though. Very useful feature

Of course, it'll take time to shake it out and really get used to it, but so far the 2500 is making me want to revisit all my songs and do a quick remix with them, it's that good. The Smooth plug-in is also making me want a do-over. Even if used just a little, it makes balancing vocals a little easier.
