Are the threads and overall architecture on these capsules the same as Neumann's KM preamp bodies?

Are the threads and overall architecture on these capsules the same as Neumann's KM preamp bodies? That I don't know. They seem a little thicker diameter than KMs, but I don't have a Neumann here to compare, that's just a guess from memory.

Are there any pics of the capsules unmounted? Do they have the "toothpick" sticking out the bottom like KM84/83 caps?

Aways email Guosheng directly, you'll get the best price and he'll answer questions or whatever. The website is almost never current. It's a bare bones operation, no slick site. Part of the charm if you ask me But definitely part of the reason the price to performance ratio is off the charts. You're buying directly from the designer, who also owns the small factory. I'll grab his email here... Edit: here you go 3uaudio@gmail.com

Those Omni mics sound really nice. The comparison with the Teal was really revealing too. Teal sounded like it was in the clouds.

Finally got a chance to try the CM100s on OH with the cardioid capsules. Wow, they are definitely my new favorite OH mic. Here's what I'm hearing:
Using the CM100 (card) on OHs the cymbals sound very natural and detailed with depth and no weird overtones like some other mics I've used on OHs. The snare sounds snappy with lots of detail again. The toms sound round, natural and punchy and the kick is tight and punchy. Th hit hat is super tight with no mush and no clang (yea, i hate clang on hi hats). I've tried lots of other OH mics and these sound the way I usually would try and make the OHs sound AFTER EQ but without needing any EQ. They do everything they are supposed to do without adding any low mid mud or low end boom. This is not an easy task and they do it well. When you add your close mics in the mix with the all the proximity that they bring to the picture you suddenly realize that all your drum mics are working much better as a team and life is good. It's not just that the CM100s do a good job at their price point, it's that they sound nearly perfect for what I want for OHs at any price point. i will say that if your drums sound thin to begin with and your aren't using any close mics you may not be that excited but my Phattie Drums (yes that's the brand) have thin shells with plenty of bottom end and in this situation the CM100s are terrific.
Also, try the CM100 hyper capsule on hi hat and you will hear exactly what your hi hat sounds like from the drummers perspective. It's super natural, not bright and the snare rejection is really fantastic. i've been searching for a hit hat mic that sounds this natural with this much snare rejection for years. BTW, I'm also a drummer.
My assistant engineer is hearing basically what I'm hearing with these (he probably is gonna get a pair) and another producer who works at my studio loves them too to most of the same reasons and is interested in a pair. Also, several of my audio technology students are excited to get a pair as they start their mic collection. Just saying. :-)
Unfortunately now I realized that I'm gonna need more than 2 of these mics. I can't wait to hear the transformer versions. :-)

For those of you interested in the transformer-coupled version, what differences do you expect when compared to the transformer-less?

ragan was so kind to provide me some acoustic guitar WAVs to check how they work together with EQs and compression. I have to say I will order a pair. I like that they do not hype the HF range like the KM 184. You can have that, if you want it, with EQ. I like natural sound in 99% of the cases. If the mics work as expected I will order more of this brand.

Wonder how those transformer versions are coming? ragan heard anything? Yep. He told me a couple weeks ago he thought they'd be ready in May. The design is done, he's just waiting on metalwork and PCBs. I'm probably going to get a pair since I have all the capsules already. He said he's also working on a KM84 style capsule that he's calling "cardioid flat". I'm really looking forward to that. His "omni flat" is one of my favs.

Is anyone hoping that the transformer version is going to smoke a vintage km-84?

If it can just come anywhere close, that's good enough for me

Is anyone hoping that the transformer version is going to smoke a vintage km-84? Doesn't need to smoke a KM84 to be a great mic/value. But yeah, I'd love for it to fill that niche. Wouldn't surprise me, based on my experiences with other 3U mics. KM84s are basically beyond reproach. They just work and sound great. If this is in that ballpark I think it'll be a hit. I've told Guosheng for a couple years that there's a huge hole in the market for a transformer coupled, non-hyped SDC. Can't wait to hear it.

Hi Guys,
I've been working with the 3U Audio transformer model prototype SDC and in its current state it is VERY close to a KM84. Once Guosheng comes out with a Flat Cardioid capsule in the next couple of months, it should be one of the best KM84 clones available IMHO. I tried it on acoustic guitar and fiddle BTW.
Also, the Flat Cardioid capsule should make the transformerless model closer to the KM 184 on the top end as well. There is a difference on the bottom end and the CM100 is a little tighter and punchy on the bottom end than the KM184 which is why I love it on OH. Try it on OH and you'll see what I mean.
