Just got an email back basically saying that the capsule enclosures are all vented (probably not cost effective to manufacture a different one for Omni), but the Omni caps themselves are not vented; if that makes any sense.
Just thought I’d pass this along in case anyone was also wondering. I would still welcome any recording samples of these mics that anyone wants to post.
I’m definitely looking forward to the upgraded/matched pair, which will hopefully be available at the end of the month!

So that's normal to have more gain with lower pre/transformer input impedance, good to know. I heard back from Chandler and indeed, 1200 is out, 300 is in, so that does all seem to add up. Guosheng told me 1200 ohm would be better for the 127, "If you use 300 ohms, the mic will work with lower sensitivity" though, which is still confusing me, cos with 300 ohm it's louder (about 5dB as stated above). The mic loses output level and sensitivity when loaded more heavily, but the transformer has 6dBish more gain with windings in parallel at 300 versus series at 1200. The transformer gain is winning the tug of war there, but response and distortion are also very likely affected for the worse. It all depends on what you like the sound of. 300 in most cases is a bit of a bandpass situation with extra fuzz.

Thanks so much for that explanation EmRR ! It was still bugging me not understanding the reasons behind it. I guess it's a trade-off between gain and linearity, but as it's only a 5dB difference, and the TG2 sounds pretty great wherever it's parked, like you say, you're gonna have to chose based on what sounds best on each source, or for each mix, or mix them up and pan them for a different vibe for each take of a double tracked guitar etc. I've noticed this with my AA CM48T too, tube/transformer mic into the same TG2 pre. On that mic, 1200 sounds great, but I actually prefer the gooey/coloured/saturated/vintage etc. tone with the pre at 300 ohm, on most things. This mic's specs state: which I assume means 1200 is theoretically ideal.

Metal work $$ plastic or some kind of caulk pennies!

After a lot of testing I've decided that I'm selling mine. If anyone in Europe is interested, drop me a message.
It's a nice mic, for sure, and the price is incredible. However, it didn't trump my other SDCs.

What did you put it up against? MJ 012's? Yes, that's correct. They both have their strengths, but I ended up liking the MJ more.

Does anyone know if 3U sells their LDC capsules, stand-alone?
I noticed that Barbaric Amplification uses them in their builds.
Thanks.
