All day drum tracking session in Cubase 9.0.1 and it has been flawless. Digging the updated workflow. Are you guys that are having crashes on Mac? Have you done the update to 9.0.1? I'm on a Windows 10 PC here. Yes, on a mac. Sierra...and I'm not even using any cracked plugs lol.

I just upgraded to Sierra. Your crash stories are freakin' me out....I was set to buy (be bought FOR) the 8.5 for the holidays, which I demo'd and was as rock solid as I'm used to with v6(at least on Windows)....but, the only reason I'd buy it is to continue being able to work cross platform. With 3/4 the machines in the house Apple, I'd like the ability to plug on in in the studio....even if it's not my "main rig".
I know that the license is supposed to work backwards...like if I buy a 9 upgrade to my 6 it's still valid for 8.5, but has anyone gotten them to provide installer files? I saved the demo installer for Windows, but I didn't grab the Mac version, as at the time I wasn't on an OS to demo it anyway....I'll log in to MySteinberg and see what's there--I bet, though, it's just v4 and v6. Buy the new one and they'll add v9....

Just ventured over to the cubase forum for my yearly "what's up" browse.
Seems like v9 has opened a can of "shit don't work right"....particularly on OSX....
Also, in the "older versions"....endless unanswered questions that amount to "I just bought a new Mac and my old version of Cubase is not running correctly/at all"....right.

Had multiple crashes...8.5 is really solid...Can't remember one crash. Where do you set the backup timer thingy where it will backup the last 10 or so in faster increments?

I didn't. When I demo'd 8.5, I noted it was creating a TON of BAK files.....but, end of the day, that's only a file mess....if they think it improves function, I'm fine with it. I don't think I've had a crash in 6 or 8.5 on Windows in going on....10 years? EXCEPT.....when I returned and started opening projects I'd worked on on the MacBook. Then, it would crash out to the desktop occasionally on opening one of those projects. I blame slate. VMR is the only thing that's caused issues in all that time. When I stopped the subscription, it got ugly for a while....until I just removed VMR so Cubase could trap it as a "missing plug in" and I could just open the projects and remove the instances. Reinstall with only the parts I own....all good....knock on wood.
I'm probably just gonna get LogicX for the MacBook instead. I'm just having too much fun with the "Drummer" in GarageBandX. And, anything that makes the writing demo process "funner"....wins. Even if end up exporting the audio and zipping it over to the Cubase PC.

I just had DISASTER. And I am **cking pissed. I've had random crashes since I've been doing this song...but I went to freeze a track and it crashed like a mug. Then every time I tried to open any version: crash. Then ultimately I lost the host light on my Apollo. Seemed like thunderbolt might be crashing. So I'm wondering if my computer overheated. Letting it rest for a bit and then coming back with prayers. Please God don't say this entire project is lost.

Sorry to hear.
This is why I don't upgrade stuff often. I'm a simple mofo. Once something is bulletproof, you have to really SELL a new feature....Logic's Drummer has done it.

Ok...that particular issue was my fault. I tried the Goodhertz dither on every track and had to use the blue cat patchworks host because they (inexplicably) don't have vst plugs. I had saved it and every time I opened the project - crash. It was the last thing I had changed, so I yanked the .vst files out of the plug folder, then reapplied the Ozone dither and re-saved. Thank God. I've still had some random crashes, though. Hopefully it gets sorted in some .xx updates. I really dig the new mix window docked on the edit page.

It seems like many-if not all - DAW software vendors release "upgrades" which are not fully tested. Then, when complaints come pouring in they deal with the problems. Seems like it's safer to wait for the new "upgrade" to get fixed before buying.

That's funny....I ran 6.0 off the DVD for YEARS....when I brought the Mac in, I went ahead and updated to their last point release for it 6.07 on both machines....and had the first issues I've ever had with modern Cubase. Nothing major--but, they enabled some kind of retrospective record BS that made the time stamping incorrect on the files that started recording from the top....they will I'm sure claim that's "a feature not a bug"--but, on what planet do you EVER want your timestamps WRONG? The "feature" was whatever retrospective record buffer....the fact that it fucked the timestamps is a BUG. Uncheck pref box and it went back to working as it should.
It was just odd to see features being added to a real point release. Not a .5 paid upgrade....but, what should amount to a bug fix release....that not only still HAS that bug to this day....but, the 6.0 n the DVD didn't have it.

I will admit I have limited experience with Cubase on windows as I have primarily used mac. I do test the latest Cubase releases but have moved to logic. Has Cubase updated the window management in windows? That windows within a window did my head in.

They have....but after the 6 I've been using....it was gone for a new (though equally odd IMO) way of doing it in 8.5, where you have to chose "file>quit Cubase" or it will simply close some child window and stay "open"....of course, it works like every Mac app has from the beginning of time on OSX. I've never understood why they did that--it's the only difference in the UI between the two--and it's not like Windows is incapable of free floating Windows--once you mark them all "always on top", they DO float like they do on the Mac....there's only an occasional menu that isn't able to be marked that way that opens in that "parent window".

Sorry to hear the issues some of you are dealing with. V9 has been flawless here so far. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Hey....so, how goes it with v9 on OS X?
I wanted to chime in that in case you need to go back and they're dicks about it--I now have both Windows AND OS X installers for 8.5 if you need to downgrade.

Back to Cubase 9: Can you move tracks in the Mix Window yet, or do you still have to toggle to the Project Window?

Cubase 9 has been rock solid with Windows 10 here. Some of the changes take a minute to figure out, but all in all, it's going well here.
