Cakewalk is giving away their CA-2A T-Type Levelling amplifier for free right now. (regular $99) If you like to have another LA2A recreation in your plugin portfolio, grab it, while it lasts. Got mine, takes just a few minutes to create an account and download it. It comes in different plugin formats and also for Mac OSX 10.8+. PC: VST3, VST2, AAX and ProChannel module Mac 64bit only: VST3, AAX, AU www.cakewalk.com/Products/CA-2A/Free

(Btw., they still have the "Lifetime Updates" option for Sonar Platinum available until 31st Dec, 2016.)

So this is for everyone? Not just Cakewalk users? I've never bought anything from Cakewalk and I just installed it. Smart marketing - I had to sign up for an account and download their plugin manager.

Just wanted to pass that along... Got mine this morning and will try installing when I get a little more time...

Got mine this morning and will try installing when I get a little more time... You could be right but I didn't see that as an option. Worked fine for me. In the upper right hand corner of the GUI, click the triangle and there is an option for offline authorization. You'll need to export a challenge file, go to your Cakewalk user account, click on "offline authorization", then import the response file that it generates. Took me less than a minute. Hope it helps...

I have UAD's and all the Waves LA2A. I prefer the UAD, but sometimes I'm out of DSP over. So, if this is better than the Waves version, I'll use it on occasion. The steps to follow weren't quite clear to me, so I'm waiting for a confimrnmation email for my new account and haven;t gotten it loaded in yet. I downloaded their Command Center, and would have prefer "offline" if I knew about it earlier.

It sounds good. Just tested in a mix on vox and bass. I am a fan of UAD LA3A on bass, but i like the vibe of this one better right now. Not bad on the female vocal. Had the Klanghelm MJUC in there before, so it's hard competition against the best. I like it as a gentle limiter on voice and tested compressor and limiter modes with turning the R37 and got quite a nice kind of distortion in, that sounds good to me. On voice i left it nearly in "flat" position, just a very slight touch of cream. Well, it's LA2A kind of emulation, hard to do something wrong except distortion abuse. Just works. And this is good. Yupp. Usable. One of those few plugins i will use more often in Mixbus. Keeping. At least far above the Waves CLA to my ears. Which was no keeper for me. The UAD LA2A could be better, but i don't have it to compare, and the LA3A i do have here is a different thing soundwise. Verdict: Definitely in the upper league of plugins. Does it sound like an analog LA2A? Meh - does even one analog LA2A sound like another one? It sounds like an LA2A plugin, so you know how easy it is to use, and a good one soundwise. It is better than i expected, and i have quite some Cakie stuff. For free licensed download - no-brainer.

Btw., you can uninstall the optional command center. I have it, because i have a bunch of Cakewalk licenses, so it makes kind of sense for me for beeing up-to-date anytime. For one plugin, i would just download under "My Products" in your online account web profile when needed or for update.

I can't install this until I log into C3, but I don't see where or how to do that. I created an account, log in fine, downloaded the installer for the CA2A, but the installer vanishes when I click on "continue". I assume it's because I'm not doing it from the Command Center, but there's no sign of how to get to "C3", ugh..

In your account webpage, in "My products" on the CA-LA page there are 2 orange links on the left, the first make Windows downloads available on the right side, the second one the Mac downloads.

I think what I downloaded was the Command Center installer. It installed, but where the heck is it. I'd use it to download and install the CA2A, then get rid of Command Center, but it keeps telling me to launch C#, but don't say how.
I found the Command center on my hard drive, supposedly successfully installed the CA2A, but it wasn't in my DAE. I'll try closing up Logic and reopening..

Got it, yay! Just tried it for 20 seconds on headphones. I'll have to try it soon once I find a track that had the UAD LA2A on it, and then compare. Pre-first opinion, seems very smooth and transparent, without the bass oomph/grip that's actually annoying. It's potentially an improvement over other LA2A plugs, but we'll see..
I have the Warm Audio WA2A now, so this would be supplemental for a track here and there.
Thanks Smallbutfine, thanks Wiz.

OK, in El Capitan i downloaded the Command Center. Installed it. It then shows up in the launchpad, last position of icons. Then opened it. Had to log in with the command center into the account. "Connected Products" show up. Click on CA-2A. click on "Install". The window changes to a "Watch instruction videos while download" window, below in the orange bottom, you can see when it is ready. When it's ready, click on the orange banner on the bottom. It leads you to the previous page, but now there is a GREEN DOT before the CA-2A which means it is installed. You can click on the wheel on the upper right corner. It shows your settings. Right from the "Download path" setting, you see a folder sign, if you click on it, it opens a Finder window where there is the CA-2A pkg. Yeay. Click on it, and the red/white CA-2A installer opens! Click thru the steps, you get a fat green OK, when it is due. You still have the finder window open, right - click on the "downloads" folder on the left of the finder Window under "Favorites". There you will find the installation package from the Command Center. Right click - move it to trash. Click on "Applications" under the Favorites. If the Command Center is still open, close it now. In the "Applications" folder in Finder there is the Command Center icon. Right click, Move to trash - DONE. The plugins should be installed (vst/au/aax) and the command center fully removed. Normally, when installed by the command center, the cakewalk plugs and apps are automatically registered, that is the convenience of this thing. Otherwise you will be guided thru the register response blaba as soon as you open one of the plugin flavors in a program. So, hope you get it running. I just did it this way....

Haha, welcome. :-D At least i wrote a Mac installer guide, hahaha. Cool. What you describe is also my first impression. Smooth, hard to make sound bad. Transparent, if you want this.

Oh man, you should get another free plug from them just for doing that!
I removed the Cakewalk Command center. I don't think I'll need it anytime soon. Still, I like being introduced to new companies this way. I've often looked at other products more seriously if I like one of a company's giveaways.

I already get Sonar updates for lifetime. After Sonar, i will not buy into a new Cakewalk product line. I am permanent customer since Sonar 4 and for my Synth and effect creative needs, i don't need more. When Sonar lifetime ends, i will definitely buy the Harrison plugin bundle and am happy for the rest of my days in Mixbus. Great stuff, great sound. Right now, i use Sonar for all the synths, plugins and the completeness of features and sound possibilities. They bought some fine technology like kjaerhus audio and many others and implement kind of light versions, that are very usable. That is kind of cool. Otherwise i sometimes bump my head on the desk for *some* bugs i stumble across. But i heard this is not better in other DAWs.....

If you are interested into standalone plugin products from Cakewalk, i really can recommend looking into their synth stuff. Momentarily, Rapture Pro is their flagship synth, with Rapture Session as a fast preset loader for all Rapture, Dimension and Sound Factory sounds. Huge good sounding sound libraries, more on the modern side of things, for nearly all occasions. If i ever buy another great Synth package than theirs, it would be the u-he synths Zebra and Diva. Just for the coolness of the best smooth and analog sounding synth filters there are in the digital domain and exceptionally well-thought and flexible concept and GUI.

This was an easy one. u-he Podolski (named after the german soccer player). AAX, Zebra-style arpeggio, pop sounds still usable. www.u-he.com/cms/podolski
