Shit, I had a GAP EQ73 and I liked it. If that 500 series EQ sounded like the GAP I'd buy a pair in a heartbeat.

They probably make all the gap brand stuff. Alctron is just a contract manufacturer.

Also, the GAP EQ73 could only run as an insert, it wasn't a straight up line level device. So clearly this Alctron 500 series as at least a little different.
I'd love to hear it though. I'm a sucker for decent, cheap, analog gear.

Neat. There are some unbranded DACs on ebay from China too that look really interesting. Part of me just wants to buy this stuff out of curiosity.

Minimum order of 300. Group buy? The China group buy of a few years ago just about did in the guy who organized it. Horrible affair for many, but mostly for the good dude that put it on. The ACMP 73, 84 & 81's were pretty dam good. I suspect that this is the same thing in different clothes. $175 for a Neve Pre / EQ was pretty good, but there WERE problems for many. I still use mine sometimes.

I couldn't imagine trying to get 300 units some place out of the kindness of my heart. that's a lot of money, a lot of space, a lot of shipping.. My heart goes out to that Stam Audio guy. He's definitely take a big bite.
...but 175 bucks..

The little guy brokering Chinese made stuff has a helluva task.

Even at 175 it's 56k plus shipping, customs, storage.. Stam's in South America, I doubt it's better there than here for this type of supply line. Shipping costs alone, as evident!

Folks became @$$***** when they couldn't get it via fedx, or ups, or USPS or overnight or #@!@. Then they wanted customs waivers stating it was worth $10 or something. The guy who did it - Chase (really great guy BTW who made virtually nothing) - almost had a nervous breakdown I think.... Nightmare. No more group buys for me. I got my stuff quickly and easily cause I was local, but Chance (or Chase I forget) was shipping for weeks. Maybe months. No good deed goes unpunished.... Whenever anybody even says the words "group buy" I get the shakes....

I like and use the TNC acmp 73. It makes for great modding material and it is also a great neve clone circuit that allows one to examine it and alter it. Although you can just stick some Carnhills in it and a few cap changes and your good. I think Chance got the raw end of the deal, his only mistake was burying his head in the sand after some of the 81 showed to have noise problems. This alctron wannabe 73 looks shitty in comparison. Look at that wiring. Look at the power supply. Look at those potentiometers. Look at those caps. Look at those switches. It looks cheap because it is cheap. Don't waste your money. I'm sure soon enough Warm will have the wa73 for us all to go gaga over and wonder 'how did he do it?'

I reached out to Chance, he still has some ribbons left he is selling off for 75, LDC's for 75 and a double ribbon for 125. He's double checking on any 73's but he doesn't think there are any left. Too bad. I'm interested in getting a few ribbons, but I feel that there is a real difference in quality with ribbons at low prices vs high prices. Am I wrong? He had comparison videos i'll be checking out soon.
