Scott's 1731's will kind of give you the best of both worlds in the VP28. They're not nearly as dark and they have plenty of punch and a really nice top end. I ran Gar 2520's in mine on the buss for a while and the dark top was something I had to compensate for a bit, and it was tougher to get the bottom to bloom out. Interesting. I was trying my absolute best to not go down the op amp rabbit hole for fear of analysis paralysis etc. But that descrip sounds kind of perfect. I dont see a 1731 on Scotts site. The GAR 1731 clips all seem much darker than the 2520 to me Also, you're welcome to send me the raw .wav and I'll be glad to run it through my vp28's with Scotts 1731's.

Hey guys. Sorry if this is answered somewhere already. Can someone offer a concise explanation of the differences between the Capi heider and the Capi 312? I read the explanations on the Capi site and the custom analogue services site. Still a bit foggy...

Hm - perhaps I could send you some files made with my Sytek as it's very uncolored. Then I might be able to hear the tone of your vp28s better? Of course, the 312 is very open, so perhaps those files would work as well. I figure the vp28 files I have, have the slightly attenuated highs and tucked in lows, so they wouldn't show up in your vp28s either at that point...

Hey guys. Sorry if this is answered somewhere already. Can someone offer a concise explanation of the differences between the Capi heider and the Capi 312? I read the explanations on the Capi site and the custom analogue services site. Still a bit foggy... So for simplicity sake since I am not an electrical engineer or even enthusiast really, I think of it like this. VP 26 is to VP 28 as VP 312 is the CAPI Heider. I asked Jeff if he would consider making a 312 type VP28, which is to say, the extra stages (extra transformer and op amp) like a console strip. He said the Heider was essentially that, so he didn't really have plans to make a kit available. The slight difference being that while the vp26, vp28 and vp312 kits he makes are pretty much replica console modules, the Heider has the Demedio mods that Heider had done to his 312s and cinemag trans etc. I would love love love to have a couple Heiders, but since they are 799, that will take a back seat for now while I amass my VP28s and some other DIY equipment. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am spreading bad information...

I hear the transients are more tamed with the VP28 , which is a good thing ! Also the VP28 sounds more solid and dense . Reminds me of that old school sound they got back in the day with a console and tape . Makes me wanna build some VP28's !! I probably will once I sell my guitar amp . Scumbum! I read your old GS threads on these models and listened to your clips! Glad you are over here now and away from the evil empire :-) The vp28 does seem slightly more "together" and warmer. It still punches fine - if not more to my ears, in the mids. Thanks , I think my clips are pretty ghetto and hopefully didn't actually hinder CAPI sales Your comparison you posted is great .

Just for fun, here are two new tracks. This is the VP28 for one song, and my Sytek mpx4a on the other version. Split the mic signal again. Apologize for sloppyness in my musicianship and composing skills. Mostly just off the cuff here. Sytek VersionCAPI VP28 Version

Yo - if you guys don't mind, see if you can host your own downloads instead of uploading them to this site...I'm at like 98% capacity right now and really don't want to increase my monthly payments...unless I get some donations
