Now, they do offer a lifetime update model for their flagship Sonar Platinum, which i am still thinking about purchasing... How does this work out? Will i be able to benefit, i.e. how much more do i get, than 2.5 years of updates? (additionally to the update time til november, that i already bought?) Will Sonar be replaced by a different named product after some time, when too many do get the lifetime update option? Do they earn enough from the lower end products? Do they just need to fill the sommer gap with an extraordinary offer, that is interesting but not particularly cheap? Sonar comes back on Macs. Announcing an OSX alpha for autumn, while Apple already announces a new (name) OS? Hmm. Interesting changes since they belong to Tascam. Game-changing or sign of going downhill and trying to survive in the pool of interesting and affordable DAWs like Reaper, Mixbus or Logic X? We will see... blog.cakewalk.com/a-new-era-for-cakewalk/

Had no idea that Sonar was only for PC. If the lifetime update offer was available for Mac, I would give it a shot...

In the past (long ago) you bought Sonar and got both OS options permanently, if i remember it right. Don't know how this will be with the announced OSX version now. Hm, interesting question. Cakewalks synth and effects bundles and gimmicks are what makes Sonar interesting for creative production. Very complete IMO. Aren't some of their products already available for Mac? Yes, if the future license model for the Mac version would be clarified, i guess more people would actually consider to jump the lifetime update train. Normally, Cakewalk is quite generous and also clear about their licenses. I can not really imagine they make Sonar OSX a different product to be seperately purchased. Did not even think of that. But now, that you mentioned ....

Johnkenn: FYI, just found this, directly from the official Cakewalk Sonar OSX Alpha FAQ: " I own SONAR today. If and when SONAR becomes commercially available on OS X, will I need to purchase a new license? No. You will be provided a new installer. You do not need to purchase a new license. post edited by Noel Borthwick [Cakewalk] - 2 weeks ago" (bold letters by me...) So - if you want to give it a try for the sake of the quite good offer for new Sonar Platinum buyers that get lifetime updates until August, which is even a bit more attractive as for existing Platinum users, there is good news. You purchase the lifetime update offer now, this implies you will not need to purchase any additional license to use Sonar OSX when it comes out. You just get the OSx installers additionally and choose the OS you want to install Sonar on. Sounds to me just like the options to install Win32 or Win64 version, as long as you install and use only one copy. In fact, up to now, Cakewalk is so generous, that can even install on more than one computer at the time without hassle in compliance with your license. Say, workstation install for regular use and notebook install for travel, both kept actual, so if you leave the studio, you can switch to the notebook on the fly without installation orgy. As long as you use only one of both at the time, everything is OK. Source: forum.cakewalk.com/Lifetime-Updates-and-SONAR-OS-X-Alpha-m3429473.aspx
