I am not really a fan of the 2bus EQ I agree no 2 bus eq until mastering I agree, but I doubt I will ever have the luxury of needing a mastering engineer, so it's up to me. My technique of late is to print a 2-mix without EQ or limiting, and then add it with plugs when bouncing out of PT. I also have found - unlike a full-blown SSL console - that the Sigma is sensitive to level and mixes sound cleaner when not hitting it very hard (-24 to -12 on the meters). But the gear freak in me would enjoy seeing an 8803 or 5500 on the Sigma's insert. Just because.

If I wanted to go the Pultec route, I have a pair of the Warm EQs... but I know what you're asking. And that isn't something I do anyhow.
My main goto 2-buss EQ remains my Focusrite Red 2. That's if I need to use a 2-buss EQ at all, which I rarely do as I try to do it in the channels and busses... and leave finally EQing to the mastering engineer.

Great thread ! In my "master" bus I have the neve 31102 from UAD. I start with a "master/ mixbus chain" and mix into this setup. I like the color of this Eq, it's subtle and sometimes I don't use it. If I need more color I can use Massive Passive, however like most I am using these like salt, just a sprinkle on top lol:) Also, have used Aurora Audio gtq2, however i prefer to print my busses or groups instead of the mix. The Gtq2 can do wonders with its Eq/ class a/ trafo and wonderful box tone again always mixing into said chains, not slapping em on like icing on a cake after its baked!

For the past three years it's been the hardware Elysia Museq. I haven't found anything better yet. Everything's detented with just 23 steps so everything is quickly and perfectly recallable and easy to stereo match. It's still my favorite EQ on the planet and I haven't found anything to match it. I use it for tracking and mixing purposes as well, not just master buss, and even though there are plenty of EQs I wouldn't mind mixing with, when I think about how much I like it, rather than spend any money on any other EQs, I'd rather just buy another Museq.
I like the idea of using it in mid-side and I've been toying with picking up an Avenson Audio Mid-Side R which is Avenson's updated model of the Mid-side which has rotary switches for everything making it perfectly recallable as well.

FWIW eq on the 2 buss with compensation on the channel eq. often sounds better than only using eq. on the channels. Mastering is not about painting the car. It's about washing and waxing it!

I bought the DIY Racked Sontec pcb and case but haven't started it yet. That's going to be one hell of a project. I use various plugins, but only once in a while, usually for general sweetening and mild balancing, but not big fixes. Sometimes nothing else seems to work. One that hasn't been mentioned yet is the PSP Neon, although I only used it on one project, it did exactly what I wanted. The Xenon works well too (limiter). I am another big fan of UAD Ampex ATR-102 on maybe 40% of my mixes. It does have some EQ features beyond the saturation. And I have to mention the TDR Kotelnikov compressor while we are on the topic of stereo mixing. Can't wait to try their Mastering EQ.

Cool!
Just wanted to point out that the TDR mastering eq is parallel design like a hardware Sontec, Clariphonic or Massive Passive, and Equilibrium can be set up this way with Sontec curves. So you can get nice gentle boosts with either, and both have gain compensation built in. The TDR also has preset musical Q selections.

I guess I should look at some schematics..

I just used this last week, didn't even turn a knob, just ran through it, and it was solid, solid, solid, tight bottom, not muddy.
I used the UAD Massive Passive plugin for a faux mastering session today. It was pretty good, and easy to use.

Amek Medici, designed by Rupert Neve. Unbelievable EQ! Sure, but on the two-buss? Isn't that like dropping a big block 427 V8 into a Chevette?

Haha.. Ward baby, You got my number. My friends, all car geeks, put a small bloc 8 in my Pinto when we were kids back in 72. They also installeda slap stick shifter.
And after they were done,I rigged it for cold tap beer, with the tap handle mounted on the dash. And then I finally installed, 4 x (6 x 9) 100 watt Mind Blower speakers
It was a very cool car.....!
