I wouldn't know if that BAE is messy or not, but it sure looks different. Are printed circuit boards a less expensive way to build? I only see one in the BAE, and five in the Stam. Not saying one is better, I'm just curious.

Not saying one is better, I'm just curious. There are many that say point to point hand wired products are substantially better. They are probably the same folks who decry surface mount components. If a circuit board is well designed, IMO it's just as good. The crux of the matter is in "well designed". Hand wired products certainly take longer to build and time = money.

Heritage is by far the neatest layout and I personally love the sound. The Stam sounds almost exactly !!!! like my Great River's from what I have heard so far ... Love my Great River too so the Stam seems like a hit.

Love my Great River too so the Stam seems like a hit. That's interesting. I had the Heritage DMA-73 and still have the GR MP-2NV and found them almost indistinguishable. Very slight difference in the upper mids.

It all depends on how you hit the input on these things.... I have both the Heritage and Great River here (8 channels each) and when you track and go back and forth you hear the differences. The Heritage is much for lack of better words warmer and has a certain vintage midrange. The Great River has a lower midrange warmth, super tight bottom, and a more open wide sound from the back and forth I have done. All good and I'm sure the Stam is right up there. The "more open wide sound" is the familiar sound in the Stam I hear that the GRiver has probably due to the same Sowter output, but maybe a little more of it due to whatever input transformer they use.
Edit: just looked it up Sowter input AND Output on the GR

I love RGO! At least I can my voice my opinion here ( 99% ) of the time with out be deleted or receive infractions. ..Haha the manufacturer has requested that you be removed from this discussion... You no longer have access to this thread. Haha 😂 Good ole GS 😂🤷♂️ Not my fault. I didn't put cardboard in my pro audio gear... Stam did Just look at the pic I posted above under the carnhill transformer. Full disclosure Update: Stam never kept his word and never made good on the agreement he posted and agreed to here on RGO... Stam repeatedly ignored emails when it was time to switch units and make good on the agreement he made here publicly on RGO to save his face. In my opinion he lied a couple times. And since everyone thinks I have something against stam ask Reddirt ( Ross ) another member here who has all the emails and was treated the same way by Stam. All Ross wanted was to buy my unit ... Ross and I exchanged emails for around 2 almost 3 months while Stam gave us the run around. After a few months he finally said he had no SA4000 and it would be another 3-4 months at least for parts. Maybe if he had been honest and said that from the beginning I would have More respect for that. Look, man...I realize you feel cheated..but I would appreciate it if you didn't post about it in every Stam thread. Was this about the SA4000 that you felt the knob stems were too long? I honestly can't remember. Maybe I can be a go-between for you guys and we can get this settled.

And btw - the cardboard is just padding under the input transformer. Putting padding under the input transformer is not an uncommon thing.

I should have mine soon, and can't wait to give it a try. If it's equal or very close to the Great River and the Heritage, I'll be one happy camper. I did my first quick test of the UAD unison 1073 plug-in, and I like the flavor. Can't wait to try the hardware.
I used the Great River once, and it was both big and tight in the low end.

Johnkenn Thank you for the offer, I have a feeling Stam will just publicly agree again draw things out for another 3-4 months and not make good on his word... oh yeah and thanks for your understanding I appreciate you. Thought it was jus this thread & the The SA4000. Stam posted in a new product thread saying if you don't like the product you get a immediate full refund no hassle. I stated that wasn't true, and posted a " buyer beware " w/o saying anything else. When I first joined this site you posted that in every Stam thread ( Buyer Beware ).... I actually posted the gut pic thinking it was a good looking build for the money... ppl told me the issues with the build. Oh ya, I think the BAE build Jesse posted could have been nicer but it's hand wired ptp etc built like a real neve so I understand. Thanks 🤠 I have offered you several times a full refund, including shipment which you do not want, I am happy to send the evidence to John via private correspondence or any other forum member which so desires. I have also offered for you to purchase the height adjusting tool from Selco so you can adjust the knobs heights (I believe this is the only issue you have with your unit which is cosmetic) and that I would send you the money for the cost and shipment from it, you also ignored it. I did offer you another unit and there was indeed an agreement in good faith for you to sell your unit to an Australian user and that I would send you another to you, I informed you on March 6th that I did not have any SA4000's left and that the next batch would be ready in May which is now delayed until July. You can ask anybody who has ordered an SA4000 that not a single units of this batch has shipped. Soon after that you began your trolling agenda towards me in every single Stam thread you could find systemically posting negative comments After this behavior I informed you that I would rather not have further dealings with each other and I urged you to solve the cosmetic problem on your unit ASAP, either by returning it for a refund or adjusting the knobs height to your liking and me covering any costs, you never replied. As much as I wish to not deal with you any further you did spend your money on a product and I will treat you the same as any paying customer, you can return the unit anytime and we can both move on.

stam Johnkenn ( so you know immediately ) First let me say publicly that I apologize. However I have been frustrated with how our business dealings went. Now I am apologizing because I Am Wrong and You Are Right regarding the refund and trying to make right with me. On 3/21 / 2017 YOU ACTUALLY OFFERED ME A FULL REFUND and to that email you see I never mentioned or responded regarding a refund because I Never Got It until now. I have email correspondence from us in my inbox but it appears I have missed a few emails from you in my Junk / trash/ spam folder. I have emails from 3/11, 3/21, 3/22 which I just got and read now. I would love a full refund thank you 🤠🙏 PayPal is nkornman66@yahoo.com $590 was the total.

Anyone have the chance to compare the Stam to an RTZ?
|
|
|
Post by Martin John Butler on Jun 6, 2017 7:35:28 GMT -6
I remember that Randy Kohrs had done shootouts in his Slack Key studio between the RTZ and real Neves, and the conclusion was everyone picked the RTZ. I vaguely recall the consensus of it being the same basic sound, only better. The Stam is designed to be like a Neve and not an RTZ, so there's no fault if it in fact sounds different than the RTZ, which is meant to be a modernized Neve style sound. But it would be interesting to hear the differences, because they may be differences of taste, and not necessarily one being "better" than the other.

Just to add my 2 cents: I am the Australian who offered to buy Chase's unit and while I have misgivings which i have previously stated regarding the continually revised ETA of Stam pieces, I do not wish my name to be used in support of Chase's issue with Stam Audio or anyone else's disagreement with anyone, particularly on a public forum unless I have agreed to it.
This is not said in anger or to embarrass Chase, just keeping a clean(ish) sheet.
And now, back to the normal program
Regards, Ross
Wait a minute............. (read this with a smile), Hey Joshua, if you are reading, how's my due in Feb, SA 87 doing?
