Thing is, good records DO sound good on a cell phone. Exactly right.

Good thing I'm not a pro and can give a #$^* about the industry. Nothing sounds good on a cell phone to me. When a friend says, "Hey, check out this tune." (Usually on youtube or soundcloud) and they start to finger their device (man, that sounds dirty), I say, "You're kidding! You want me to hate it, right?" Send it to me and I'll check it out later.

Thing is, good records DO sound good on a cell phone. That's the sign of a good mix and mastering job, innit?

I'm more in the M57 camp, a good reco/mix wil sound clear on an iPhone, but music lopped off at 600hz hardly sounds good to me, I can safely say I've NEVER listened to a single tune to completion from a cell phone speaker

I take M57's point, but I listened to his "Hello Everyone" last night on laptop speakers, and the song and vocal still come across even with the rolled off bottom. Very nice! I'm letting my old timer show, but the iPhone 6 sounds better to me than my first SONY transistor radio that got me hooked on the great rock and pop of the early '60's.

Yikes, that's an older 1+1 with a virtual piano and an NT1a on the vocal. Maybe I should just toss out all the new gear I bought over the last year or so.

Guess it's the song and the performance, not so much the gear.. Thanks man. I've been conspiring to re-record the entire thing from scratch ..with a real piano - also the vocal with better gear, etc. but matching or bettering that performance will be daunting. Also, I think that track cries out for orchestration - mostly with strings. I guess I'll never know until I try, huh? One other thing that's kept it on the back burner - I still haven't bought my dream mic, but I think that will be changing very soon. I'm sitting on a nice pile of money that I've made from selling some old gear and getting some very good advice from a number of experienced and knowledgeable folks here who know my voice pretty well, and there's mounting consensus, so..
