The Aoife O'Donovan album Fossils is one of the best recent records I've heard. The great arrangements and players certainly help out too.

Im surprised no one mentioned steely dan. I have been a huge fan of Orquesta Nova if you can find it. Goat Rodeo Sessions are super clean too. And also songs like "Skin" by rascal flatts are amazingly well recorded and engineered for me.

"Slopes" from Strength In Numbers, comes to mind. I always felt connected to that record as if I were playing in the middle of the band.

That's a stellar cast there Randy. Béla Fleck - banjo Edgar Meyer - bass Sam Bush - mandolin Mark O'Connor - violin Jerry Douglas - dobro
I have quite a few of the various albums they've worked on together, and they're always recorded beautifully, capturing the energy and tone of the acoustic instruments perfectly. A real benchmark.
* Don't go to see Edgar Meyer live, if you can't handle the pain of your jaw dropping for an hour.
