I don't think The Sound of Silence could be covered any better. Draiman is a beast on vocals.

Maybe it's overproduced but I don't care, still sounds awesome!

Maybe it's overproduced but I don't care, still sounds awesome! Exactly why I don't like a lot of modern mixes. Too precise everything sits to nice to be true, nothing left from the arranging rough mix intersession. I call it over polished....

Sorry guess I misunderstood I do think modern music is over polished but this was one of the few modern things that had soul and feel to it

I was blinded by production, after years still awed by song's intent, blown away by Draiman's vocal, I say, such hideous beauty, entombed, a soul's lament.

Man. It sounds so much like a South Park spoof of 90s Nu Metal. Or Tenacious D or something.
But hey. Music is subjective. I'm sure there are lots of folks that think stuff I dig is ridiculous.
Still. I'm a Simon and Garfunkel fan and this makes me simultaneously laugh and cringe. But mostly cringe.

I'll be sure from this point forward to let people know MY honest opinions as well. I usually just move along if I don't like something.

I'd prefer to have heard him go for this much drama and intensity with an original song. As a cover, I felt there just wasn't enough originality, despite Draiman's very impressive vocal and obvious talent.
If he could write that well and THEN do a vocal like this, I might think it was interesting. Toward the end, when he moves into the screamy guttural voice mode, it becomes like so many other tracks we've all heard. Drayman's got a way better technique and feel, but to me, this sounds a lot like Scott Stapp singing Eyes Wide Open by Creed, and others like it.

Why wouldn't you be HONEST about your opinion? just think about your response, say what you mean, and mean what you say. Actually, a good question is why is this post in the pro audio section? IMO, I think the song is great, I think the presentation appears contrived, and i don't "believe" the guy singing it, the dynamics of the string arrangement is mehhh, it sounds like keyboards done not that well honestly, ultimately if you're going to post something as a "wow", expect honest opinions in return, thats what we should do, yourself included, be honest, it's no big deal.

I liked it very cool.. I can see Tony's point about the keyboards and this is after all a site for producing music don't really care about the singer being believable he is awesome.

I liked it, my main criticism is the pitch correction on his voice is extreme. As the featured element, you want that to sound more natural, ideally. I especially liked the lines where he opened up the growly scream sounds.

Music, when done well, should move someone. It moved you. Job done. I listened to the whole thing... without watching the video.. then I watched the video. I think , they treated what is a MOTHER%*ker of a song to sing, with respect. I am not a fan of the auto tune like effect they use.. but hey, I don't really like slap back vocals from the beatles either 8) The guy can obviously sing and has power and range... Do I like it more , less or same as the original... who cares? 8) It moved you right? Maybe it will introduce a heap of people who follow this guy, into a bunch of music done by simon and gurfunkle? maybe not. cheers Wiz

This is cool, but I think the pitch correction is over the top and unnecessary. Kinda kills it for me.

This is cool, but I think the pitch correction is over the top and unnecessary. Kinda kills it for me. Become more familiar with Draiman's vocals and you may come to the same conclusion I have: It is done for effect, not out of necessity. His pitch is always very very good!
