So, I had to order a big USB3 hub to get my little Air to use all my peripherals....holy crap, this is silly looking on the desk--I've never seen this so "consolidated".
USB 2:
Audio/MIDI interface iLok2 eLicenser Tranzport Mackie Control Griffin Knob Apple keyboard
USB3:
GB Ethernet Thumbdrive (sessions) Back up magnetic drive (ad hoc for obviously backups)
Mouse is a magic mouse so Bluetooth for that, but Apple's wireless keyboards are sans numPad, which for Cubase users would be a no go....I'm getting by now by using the MCU transport controls, but Cubase maps all that to the NumPad.
This is gonna be a bitch to make not ugly. I can't hide it all, because the ethernet apparently has to be un/replugged after sleep to show up....man, when I committed to using "whatever was around"....a Mac MINI would make this all WAY cleaner/easier. No more laptops for me. Now a Surface Pro....with it's dock....hmm....would it work better or worse with the single massive dock connector and Win10? Don't know.

Jamie, Belkin makes a bluetooth number keypad that compliments the Apple keyboard. Works fine. DP is also relies on a numerical keypad for transport and function control, and is a must for use with a laptop.

I've seen that. I've thought about getting it just to set it on the Kronos's top. I didn't know it was Bluetooth, though....I figured it would be another USB port....hmm....I might need that....

Honestly I found a POS USB hub to work better than using all the USB jacks on my 2 second gen Intel Mac minis !

Honestly I found a POS USB hub to work better than using all the USB jacks on my 2 second gen Intel Mac minis ! Me, too, but some of my devices only.work direct into the mini USB port. Ilok and apple drive, for example.

I've got everything on the new USB3 hub right now EXCEPT the audio interface, which does work there but I'm having some weirdness with docking and undocking and Cubase "forgetting it"---seeing it I guess as a different device....it seems to be solid so long as I plug it into the other port. The original plan was to mount the hub behind the desk with all the license keys and wire mess--just have a single TB and USB cable, along with the power....all tied together and fastened somehow. But, if I've really gotta plug and unplug the ethernet...and the audio interface needs to be directly connected....ehh...maybe some creative tabletop cable management brainstorm in order.
MiniDisplayPort to all forms of video is here and plugged and played fine.

Man, I have never had a less stable DAW on either OSX or Windows. Considering how the system isn't being taxed....I've got to believe this is due to the sheer amount of external devices. Or obviously the hub they're plugged into....reason I say is there's been a lot of oddball stuff around BOTH dongles holding licenses. Actually--maybe let me put those back on the old Belkin USB2 hub they've been on a lot.....see if that fixes it. Thanks--typing helps.

Every time I "dock" this thing to do some music work I'm unplugging and replugging USB stuff for like 10min getting it to all show up.
I'm beginning to rethink this goal of using whatever computer is around to record to....I mean it works....and works well once it's up and going, but the sheer number of peripherals has got me seriously looking at building a new Win7 system while they will still allow new Win7 licenses....which will easily last until I everything is multitouch and voice controlled and such....
