They sound really hilarious. As in OMG is that really what they think we'll think is reverb? Sometimes it's perfect. 99% not.

They have a sweet spot where it's barely on, that gives songs a little more presence. Yes my TC reverbs are much better but experimenting with other units can't hurt.

It's a specific effect not a general purpose reverb, very much a one trick pony, when it works it works , but when it doesn't it doesn't.

anybody ever put a bunch of accutronics type #9's together? I'm gonna find out soon enough 8) My bet is they will be quite good, no emulation can even enter the zipcode of real verbs without eating 99.5% of the computer ime.

I use a Demeter which I like the sound of a lot.
I'm fairly sure it's a 3 spring. the circuit around it seems very good too.

I use 4 tanks. Accutronics made me custom type 9 tanks. The recovery coils were reversed magnetized on two of them. That way I would connect them in series to create a humcancelling pickup, no hum. The driver coils were also connected out of phase, that cancelled the fundamentals like it does on an electric guitar. That got rid of the sproing sounds, it worked more like a high end plate reverb. Doug Sax did my record mastering back then and gave me high marks for my cheapo home made reverb system. It's now gone, I use a M7 now days...

Let me resurrect this thread. I just got a Sansui RA-500 Spring Reverb myself, mostly because they look fantastic I tested it briefly yesterday and it rocks! Hilarious? I don't think so! It sounds sweet for guitars and vocals. Very "sproingy" for snare drums, although it can be perfect for the right situation. I'll be modifiying it for 100% wet signal this week (it involves cutting a couple of capacitors in the dry path). The circuit is totally discrete, and the manual with full schematics is available online. Or you can use it in mono, input signal from the L channel and get 100% wet from the R channel. But I like the pseudo-stereo effect taken from the 2 springs.

I have one of these: www.zerotronics.comIt's really good. There are different versions/reverb lengths/springs. I use it on every mix. I will probably end up with more of them. I also have a couple sansuis. We call em the 'suis! They rule as a lava lamp alternative and they make it on to a records red now and then. As I understand there's no spring in it though. It's a ddl with a lot of feedback. Isn't that right?

My Sansui is definitely a spring. Maybe later models were digital.
I've decided not to mod it and use it with its mix of wet and dry for the time being.
