Hi Fella's
i'm looking to supplement my monitoring set up with a part time(switched in and out) sub, i have two 10" woofs looking for a home, and would like to build a passive sub cab utilizing my adcom gfa 555 pro as an amp, i would like to know if there are any diy plans out there for a dual 10" closed box design? accuracy is the most important, i've got plenty of power.
thanx for any leads T

Usually, woofers have a specific volume of air that they were tested with. If you can find the datasheets for them, they'll have a cubic measure (sometimes feet, sometimes meters) of how much air they were intended to have behind them in the box. Building the box isn't hard, but be sure to buttress the box with cross bracing so that it doesn't resonate. Contrary to popular belief, you don't want the box walls vibrating very much, they should be stiff as can be. You'll also need to figure out the port size too. I've not done too many boxes, just mostly car audio and a few blueprint based boxes for speakers, but I've seen a lot of speaker building websites and forums that talk about this stuff. There is bound something. EDIT: Check out this guy's website. He's pretty awesome at what he does. www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Loudspeaker_Projects.htmI've built a speaker pair from his designs and it was pretty good. EDIT 2: Check this volume and port calc: www.troelsgravesen.dk/ports.htm

I built the CSM speakers on his site. They are pretty nice, but unfortunately got sidelined due to my JBLs being more of what I wanted. I almost built the studio 101 but (unlike Johnkenn) I didn't find the ProACs as lifechanging when I got to try some out.

For extremely dry bass subwoofers, try to look for DIPOLE bass cabinet plans. However, there are some specialties that the speaker cabinets have to fulfill to work in dipole application... But IF they work - they are as dry as the altai desert. My brother still has a set of speaker cabinets for this purpose - and if we find the time to built this one ready, i already know what his face will look like, when we fire up this one... Best regards, Martin

Troels addresses some of the shortcomings in the proac design, he also fine tuned around the scanspeak long fiber paper woofs, and seas tweets that are seriously accurate, i'm expecting really good results!? i'll let you know when i finish em. Best regards, Martin Hi small, I checked this out, but geez man, i need to start recording music again someday lol! these are a pretty big project. I just want something relatively simple to punch in and out once in a while to get myself and potential clients excited about some extended bottom.

That's the crux with DIY....someday you wake up and get aware that you didn't record for years Just to push it a little further...the plan we have for the dipole sub includes 2 marble plaques, for top and bottom...makes a pretty good cocktail table, too, but well, you can't move it with 1 person ...

Parts Express has low cost sub kits with pre-cut MDF cabs. 8, 10, 12 and 15". I would do the 15" and use their dual voice coil 15" sub. I use a dual voice coil 15" sub and love it with my 8" JBL's. Got to get my 25 hz's.
