jsteiger --- any news on the FC526? I saw on FB that you've been working on a revision with an input transformer. Can't wait to get a pair! Everything is here for these. New and tested PCB's, new faceplates etc. We have the first batch of 50 parts kits all sorted and ready to go. The only thing I am lacking is the new pictorial build guide. I plan to get going on that as soon as we delivery the Stapleton pre's. Dude! I wanna hear more about that Stapleton setup! That's bad ass, congrats! Is he setting up a recording rig?

Very cool I saw some pics of his live rig with an Avalon 737 for vocals This new rig sounds like a step in the right direction!

Couldn't agree more I thought it was the last piece I would grab BUT from my FOH and wedge days , often it's the FOH guy who choses and it's more of what They know and what is perceived as being better than what's in the console.

I see that CAPI just released the new Fc526 xfmr. Less op amps and no THD calibration...let the GAS begin!

Looks pretty different from round 1.

Wonder how much different it sounds with that iron in there?

I should be able to compare them by the end of the week.

I should be able to compare them by the end of the week. I'll be working on BOM and doc links after I get orders shipped today so will likely have them posted tomorrow sometime.

I'll plan on building them Wednesday or Thursday. Is the CA2622 going to eventually replace the EA version? Or just supplement supply?

Those that have built these guy's whats your method of calibrating ITB? I wanna take a whack at a pair but after reading the old calibration guide I'm not sure how'd I'd go about finding a signal generator for cubase that will work in dbu.Even after finding an SOS article where a schlub like me with the same interface is trying this very thing...
I guess I grasp the differences between measuring units but my primary question is can this be done ITB/ with a DMM that doesn't mention anything about having rms capabilities...

Well, your multimeter can read AC, and that result can be looked up on a dB conversion chart. One place to start.

Ah that is fairly simple! My brain shuts off after so many numbers but I get it now, eureka! So with my RME 802 two settings input settings my dbfs levels for calibrating would be as follows using a +4dbu nominal input Setting 1) lo gain: 0Dbfs @ +19dBu then that is 0dbu= -15dbfs Setting 2) +4dBu: 0Dbfs @ +13dBu then that is 0dbu= -9dbfs ....For example, opting for setting 1 above my system is -15dBFS = 0dB, offset the -30dBu numbers by -15 so you would use -45dBFS. For the +7dBu level I would use -8dBFS and for 0dBu it would be -15dBFS! BULLSEYE

I got a little delayed with some other projects... but they're built, just not yet calibrated. Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time. The build was pretty straightforward though...

Well on my build I switched the 470R with 470K thanks auto range DMM 🤦OOPS.Fixing that and it's all good to go, pretty straight forward build. Lot's of math for this noob's 1st calibration the 1st time around, nailing the system math and conversion was intimidating but Jeff has the patience of a saint and really helped me get it right until it finally clicked! Just got a pair calibrated.
Ordering quite a few pre's as august is a busy month for us gear builders....and I notice jeff's been shipping out vp28's with the CA2622's. He also has both trannies for sale on the site.... both have the same specs but I'm curious like Indiehouse... wonder if this is just supplementation for supply/inventory

With the new input transformer, are these closer to the vc526 now? Meaning they can just be used to add that ananlog polish to any signal just passed through them?

I'm sure jsteiger will chime in... but from what I understand, they're close to identical in function and sound, created to supplement chronically low inventory levels.

And you think 1731 is the way to go over Litz in this case? All of the CAPI products I've used thus far I've really loved the Litz, but I can definitely see how the FC526 in particular can really benefit from the 1731.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but he Litz is the output transformer while the 1731 is the op amp...as far as the 1731 in the 526, it seems to be the most neutral.
