i'm real curious how this compares to the splice500s. I might have to find a buyer for my IJR 51xF76s and make room in my rack.

I have not used one of Mike's Splice units but I'm sure they are great. While the FC526 functions in a very familiar 1176 kinda way, they don't exactly sound like them. I had a long convo yesterday with Rob Schnapf who has been using one for a few weeks now. It was very cool to listen to him try and describe them. He thinks they do their own thing and are quite unique. My favorite thing he said was "they are like warm caramel" (pronounced care-a-mel). I'll see if I can get him over to post a thought or two.

Okay so i have spent two weeks with this thing and run it thru all sorts of stuff both tracking and mixing And it always made me look like i knew what i was doing. It sounds really really good. I was trying to explain it to jeff yesterday and couldnt really come up With specific words that seemed fitting. All i can really say is this is a for real combination and implementation Of ingredients that have existed but not put together like this before And when combined, taste real good. Like salt in your beer Bourbon in your watermelon (try it) A marathon bar.... Technically speaking of course

The thing that strikes me is that it never pinches or feels like it's running out of headroom. It compresses equally across the frequency spectrum...like a quick little monkey on the volume knob.

Seriously, i regularly pounded into the orange color led and it always maintained its dignity while taking the beating. And it will impart its character but never gets shitty. Is that the 1731's? Dunno. It has a certain elegance but not in a prim and proper way. Maybe more like an F1 mechanic. Aggresive but not abrasive Here we go, warm chewy caramel ish. I really really dig it. And i would say differently if i felt differntly. Or more likely i would say nothing. I want four but indie rock doesnt pay.....

The VC528 got the moniker "The Missing Link" I love the idea of this being called The FC526 Volume Monkey Ha that's pretty good!

this isn't even remotely a surprise, what will be surprising is if our "PDE" (aka J steiger) finds a way to keep these stocked for more than 20 minutes every couple months
