The pre-NAMM announcements are starting to flow: Power and panning, on a per slot basis. Real meters. Filled with your favorite flavor (VP-28?; 73jr?) this thing could be the sheeeit. I think I want one.

On that note, filling it with the Heritage 73eq modules would kill as a mini mix rig.

That looks cool. I would love a more modular version though. I am always looking for something with inserts and in/out switches. jsteiger... an api flavor?

Looks like it's going to be selling for $1299. I guess that makes one of these filled with their 73EQ-JR ~$9300. Man I wish I had a money tree.

I see a lot of heat problems on the inside of modules and a lot of 500 series module restorations in the future. That is the case with a lot of the 500 series racks. Especially when the 500 racks are racked up and not sitting on the desktop and able to breathe. Just touch the 500 racks at VK sometime when you are in there. Frinkin' hot! Imagine how hot it is on the inside and what that is doing to components.

Just trying to wrap my brain around this a little bit. So - each channel has a fader and then there's a master fader? I would assume these are attenuators and don't have anything in the path, right? Or I wonder if it has it's own transformers and all that goop? Somebody explain how this would be beneficial - or a scenario...

It seems like it's just a 10 channel summing mixer built into a 500 series rack. Only Iron on the buss probably.

Jk, it's a summing mixer, a lot of guys like to sub drums down, or ? down to a 2 channel mix electronically instead of ITB(imo it's much better sounding), or an entire mix can be stemmed down and through. This thing no doubt kicks some nevish arse! I'm going to build 6-8 channel passive summers out of simple dsub25 connectors in a single rack space, then i'll use future built capi VC528's for makeup gain(maybe vp28's), i love sub mixes, 16 stereo subs would be ideal, i currently have 8 mono. If i can find SC venue stereo subs, they'll plugnplay straight away into my board for as much as 8 stereo subs, then the other passives will give me a total of 14 ideally. edit; fist shakes at sky " jcoutu1 " beat me to it...

Was just kind've looking into this a little more www.altomusic.com/heritage-audio-hamcm8-8-slot-rack8 slot 500 series enclosure with 10 channel mixing capabilities Top of the line of the new Heritage Audio “On Slot” Technology “On Slot Technology” handles power supplies on a “per slot” basis. Each slot has its own power supply linear regulation stages, modules are isolated from the rest. Each slot features test LEDs for checking correct power operation located aside of the slot connector Phantom power available is 140mA total Made with heavy gauge steel with an aluminum front panel in the UK Pan and Fader controls per slot on dual concentric potentiometers ON switch to assign each channel to the mix bus Mix Bus follows a passive, voltage summing topology, similar to that found in the 80 Series consoles of the 70s. The gain loss is restored by the same Class A, 2n3055 driven, transformer based output stage used in the 1073 by which Heritage Audio is known for. The central section has analog VU meters and a Stereo Master fader. Connections are made by means of both gold plated XLRs and DSUB25 Input and Outputs, with Standard Tascam protocol.

This thing looks great. Also good pricing. A Also saw they have a 10 slot rack coming "on slot technology" but without the summing etc.. Believe for $699. Im in for one!!!!

This from Heritage:
It´s basically a summing mixer for the 500 series slots´s outputs. The summing is made like in the old vintage Neve consoles, which means there´s a gain loss. To recover this loss, we employ a transformer coupled class A output stage, the same one used in the 1073 so, yes, there´s an additional transformer based gain stage.

Kind of cool, but I would rather a desperate mixer, I do like the fact that it lines up with the 500 channels. but 8 ch in rack width is clunky .

Just a simple question: Is it possible to use it as a stand alone line summing mixer without filling it with 500 series modules???
thanx

I think you could use this kind of like Jeff's 4x1 as well. So, you could sum down a few things during tracking. Say 3 mics on a electric guitars all panned left, print that to one channel in the DAW. Then a few mics on a different source panned hard to the right and print that into the DAW. Now you have some old school real record making happening.
I still really want Jeff's 4x1. That thing sounded killer.
