I currently have a BAE DMP. Very happy with it. Thinking of selling it to help fund my Apollo. then at a later stage just to grab on of the new Heritage 1073 jr's. Anyone that owned both? which did you guys prefer? BAE or Heritage? Here in perth i dont have options to demo gear cheers

I have not owned either but from what everyone is saying and all the clips ive ever heard of the Heritage, thats the ONE to have... I will be getting 2. The BAE is "sleepy" "dull" sounding to me. John Kenn owned both at one point. He may have clips here soundcloud.com/johnandkris

Yeah thats what i've heard so far.
Was happy with the BAE. Perhaps I'll be amazed by the Heritage. Also $899 is a great price

dont forget about the aml ez1073, less price for the diy rack unit, and you get the eq, or i think jeff sells the 500 unit for $1K assembled w/eq, great reviews from all who've used it.

I've gone the AMS Neve route before and now own the Heritage. The Heritage I like better than the AMS. Never tried the BAE but I can't see anyone not liking the Heritage. It's the real deal.

I've owned all three (imagine that)...Well, the Brent Averill and the AMS 19" versions. I honestly think you would be fine with any of them. At the time - and there are so many variables involved - I remember thinking the Brent Averill was a little dull. Well, it was a little more dull than the AMS - had them side by side. I would love to have all three side by side right now and try them out. I had the Heritage 1073 and now the Jr. and they're some of the best pres I've used. Just full and balanced - highs are there but not laser-beamish like I've experienced with so many different 1073 clones.
I was talking to BAE earlier this week about a PS and had to tell them I had the Heritage because it was having occasional drop outs (because of the BAE PS)...Laughingly said it was only because they didn't offer the one space version...and he mentioned that there were "problems" fitting a "real" 1073 circuit in a 500 space...which I don't doubt. Both the NV73 and Heritage have the transformer hanging out of both sides. All I know is this - the Heritage sounds like the really nice vintage 1073's I've used...and at $899 it's too good to pass up. If that makes me a Heritage Homer, then so be it...
BTW - I tried the Neve 1073LB for about a day a while back and I was really impressed. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

just to clarify, i am talking about the amL, not the ams, here's a link, to my knowledge there is little to no difference between this cloned circuit, and an an original 1073, rack or 500 series. Colin doesn't mess about. Jeff Steiger would be the one who would know for sure as he carries it at his store? classicapi.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=239

I'm thinking of letting the BAE go. Even though I did like it. Sell my Steiny MR816 as well and grab a Apollo. And then later on grabbing a heritage 73'jr.
I should stay of these forums. Hahaha
John have you tried the 73jr into the VP28(line mode)?

I agree I wish colin would make it all snazzy like The DON classic NV73 with EQ

Interesting. I'm 100% for the sound and not the looks. And I mean 100% Good looking gear is always welcome but I prefer to please my ears over my eyes for that matter.

I have the Heritage dma73 and I've also owned the 500 series. I plan on adding more pres to my setup, and it's going to be the rack version. To my ears it just ever so slightly edges out the 500 series. I've heard the bae in tests as well and I think it's fantastic. It might have a little more thickness to it which is why some people may call it dull. Honestly I don't think you could go wrong with any of the 73 varieties out there. The real trick is to push them one click before audible distortion kicks in. To my ears that's where they really shine. Stacking tracks like that will give you some great results.

I think the SCA N72 is one of the most drab, plain looking, unremarkable, best sounding preamps I have heard. Certainly worth consideration, even though it does not look the part. I wish I had 8 of them.
