Dave means well, but every young pensodian running out to buy a mono $2,800 compressor cracked me up. Comments like that show his reality vs someone like me... I enjoy most of his vids but the product placement vids need help. Put the damn files aside and organize ahead of time, use drums, vox, and bass ( Gtr ) and put the pieces to the test. Then compare, don't blab about nothing, then say I promise you will like it after playing almost fully mixed a/ b examples, where the " affected " is always louder is not helping the young pensodians learn form the examples, plusnit teaches you have to have HW to make a great mix, which is not true either. DP is one of those AE who presents great sounding mixes either way. I am pretty sure LMA tools sound nice, but there is no reason to worry about to not to own one of these tools. Stop your worries about it, because they affect your mixes more than you will know.

drbillI agree completely that HW can help transform a mix in ways that SW still cannot replicate even in 2017. The HW for you ( and many ) is a staple to your workflow, and your sound. So from a hands on perspective, for me, and my non hi end HW ( stam sa4000/ wa76 ), I enjoy the connection it brings to the music vs a mouse / trackball... Plus when experienced professionals who have been successful in this biz give me advice, I listen and take heed. The ( HW ) compression adds character to the source by adding harmonics that can help transients punch as well as transform groove/ add life ( if needed ). Also, HW compression improves the clarity of the source audio in the mix without touching a fader or raising the source volume/ gain. That is just 3 quick examples of what I know my lo end HW does for me on my mixes. I can only imagine more improvement with more I/O and ( hand built tube ) HW, even though most here at RGO know I love my DAW and SW 😂 I am always a proponent of stepping outside the comfort zone to learn and improve one's repertoire... As far as Dave P. goes, i know he has sponsors and donors which he keeps happy, and I have learned some gems by adding onto some of his " ideas ". The Jaycen Joshua episode with Jaycen wearing the light green is hat is great and there are definitely others I have really enjoyed as well ( as long as DP let's them talk 🤣 ) Again for free YT vids I'm satisfied, I can heed the message regardless of messenger!

ChaseUTB - it's all cool. Whatever works for someone and is within their budget is what works. If all I had was plugins, I'd be rocking the **** out of them. Luckily I've been able to amass some good outboard over the last couple decades. Comparing ANY plugin comp to a hardware comp is - as you mention - pretty much a no brainer for me. I can get what I want instantly from the hardware and it brings that clarity and mojo you speak of immediately. With a plugin, I'm constantly fighting with it to get it *close* to where I want it to be, yet I can never quiiiiite get there. Your comps may not have cost a fortune, but from all reports I've heard, they are awesome units. Print thru them back into your DAW so you can free them up to use on other sources.... <thumbsup> Cheers, bp

finally got a 14B en route to the shop. Looking forward to checking it out! Based on all the word of mouth action on the street I am expecting great things! The online examples are pretty good, at least I think they show what I can expect. I gotta say, I love "clean" sounding tube gear with a touch of sparkle and mojo. So this might be right up my ally.
peace
