But yeah, I was working on the house one night and the power flickered and I heard a loud ZZZZZZTTT sound (electric arc) and a POP. I went outside to see what was going on and a bunch of people down the street had gathered around something in the road. i grabbed a flashlight and walked down there. Before I got down there I could smell burnt hair and flesh (like bacon..) and saw a huge owl laying on the ground, with his wings and legs outstretched. All of his feathers had melted and fused together into something like a turtle shell. From the top of his head down his back was a huge cavity where the current had flowed (probably through the spinal cord). Obviously he had landed on a wire and bridged another one causing a short through his body. At least death was instantaneous. Thats crazy! an Owl with hair!! i gotta see this lol

I'm gonna throw this out there again.. You should never have to lift a ground. Grounds are there for a purpose, which is mostly protecting you from shocks and to a lesser extent, shielding the signals from noise ingress. Lifting a ground to get rid of a problem is just putting a band-aid on a gunshot, there are bigger issues at hand. I was just trying to troubleshoot a grounding issue with an Avantone Mixcube. When I contacted Avantone, they instructed me to flip the ground lift to resolve the issue. I told the guy directly "I was told this isn't a safe long-term solution." He said "It absolutely is, that is specifically why the switch is there. A ground lift on the power cord itself would not be safe, but ethos way absolutely is" Can I get your opinion? Thoughts on I setting my apartment on fire and filing a suit? Maybe I'll get a free mixcube out of it!!!!

I believe so. When I unplug the cable from my interface, the issue stops.

That switch lifts signal ground not power ground.

I believe so. When I unplug the cable from my interface, the issue stops. Yeah that switch is removing signal ground. Completely safe. If you read that grounding article linked at the beginning it will help in identifying what is causing the issue.

As others have correctly pointed out, the lift is just signal ground, which will then ground entirely through the power system. It's safe! But sometimes it's more noisy..
