I've spent a huge amount of money on Reverb over the last 10 years, and I am careful to protect myself as I know they aren't too concerned about me. I bought some drum hardware from a scumbag store that I should have cross checked on Google. The guy is a crook and he sent me hardware that was broken and not as described. I knew enough not to ask for a refund because then Reverb will not allow you to warn fellow members with negative feedback. I left an honest and accurate review of this guy, that is consistent with others and Reverb gave him the opportunity to respond whereupon he left a COMPLETELY fictional reply that must be his standard come back. I never spoke to the guy, I knew better to even bother over a vintage Ludwig boom stand after I looked at his history. Reverb is involved in rackateering where they are abetting disinformation and limiting the ability of Buyers to warn others about bad actors. I'm leaving the platform and taking my $100K in spending elsewhere. Just another scumbag software company that is interested in profits only. Sadly symptomatic of our times.

Not the first time I hear of something like this with Reverb. Kind of makes you wonder why you pay the fees if there is no buyer protection.

I think the problem is more seller protection as Reverb seems to have a bias towards the buyer’s rights, advocating for even scumbag buyers before legitimate honest sellers.
I know of lots of problems with Reverb, sorry that happened.
I personally have had reverb back me up when my buyer raised false accusations, but I also have a good friend hopelessly screwed around when his buyer made false claims.
Caveat emptor with Reverb now, also remember to Jack your asking price to offset its fee increases. As an international seller it’s total fees to me are very high.

Reverb is the worst. Buyers have all the power. You’d probably win in your situation. I will never sell on there again. Buying, sure...but selling...no way. There are much more profitable ways to sell these days. Most reverb shops associated with actual brick and mortar stores will offer you way better deals anyway if you get in touch with the actual store.

I had a scammer try to screw me on reverb claiming they never received my shipment. When that didn’t work they claimed it was a fraudulent CC purchase. Fortunately I keep good records and their claim was dismissed. I’ve been weary of selling expensive items on there since. Where are you guys selling stuff these days?

Stopped bothering since massive European audio retailers started allowing part exchange. What do you mean ShadowK? I recently traded my Apollo X6 in at a massive pro audio retailer and bought tons of other stuff. Got a pretty good price too.. You could probably get more on E-bay or Reverb but it's not worth the hassle. Nowadays I'll just e-mail retailers, tell them what I want and ask what they'll give me for my stuff.

Well GS classified has lots of exposure, no fees and you can negotiate , shipping, payment method and insurance.
Use Craigslist or Kijiji too or UA forum has a classified section too.

Even with the rising fees, Reverb still beats meeting up with some rando with a wad of cash in my pocket. With any of these online platforms I just expect that occasionally I'll have to deal with some issues. If things arrive not as listed or broken, then I'll raise it up to the seller. Usually, if I can fix it on my own, I'll negotiate a discount rather than shipping it back. I also lean towards giving people the benefit of the doubt rather than assuming they're trying to scam me. Mistakes happen.

I've used GS a few times and everything went well, but what happens if it doesn't? Then you're dealing with PayPal to sort things out?

Yes, so I always ensure that a very detailed description of the item is in the PP invoice or email trail and take pictures before I ship. I have had nothing but good experiences with PP disputes but their rules are skewed towards PP not you.
Thjere are other money transfer companies too, like transfer wise, and they are good but you also have to arrange insurance.

Selling is easy -- as long as you have their money, you're good. I buy only from people who have good feedback. There's always a risk with buying/selling online, but GS has always worked for me.

So which selling platform doesn't have a bad rap? HMMM...maybe there's a hole in the market. This sounds like something I should spend a week looking into and then suddenly realize I'm in completely over my head...

It's looking worse and worse these days.
Fees getting jacked up, IRS in the USA now tracking sales over $600 (!!!), scammers having their field days and burying themselves in sin, various erosions to buyer/seller protections.
I might scale back on e-commerce in 2022, might be the smart thing to do. Try to find other avenues, other ways of making small income.
The devil is the details and there's a lot of details these days.

Did everyone forget the classifieds here? Better deals here, but when Jules set it up so that your GS classified search also searches EBay and Reverb he made shopping a lot easier.

Same here RGO sales has really come through with selling my DWA DI woflboxes!
In 2022 I'll probably hit up the RGO sales forum with a few guitar pedals, I have a boost pedal I'm about to build a short run of.

Did everyone forget the classifieds here? No, sorry was thinking about Reverb exposure people search there and apparently few other places . I almost always get hits from reverb with its fees and no or few hits on gs. I think a lot of buyers go with Reverb cus they know in a way they can take advantage of sellers after the fact , with Reverb support.
