I thought this might be fun so I will start. I was tracking a freelance session when a client called in a panic, she was doing a live gig using the house rig and it sounded terrible, could I stop by and help? Since the session was ending I said sure I’ll see what I could do. I stopped by who ever EQ’ed this systems was on crack and of course the room with the rack was locked and nobody who was there could unlock it. All I had with me was a 4 space lunchbox with a 560 550a , plus 2 512’s a Mackie 1202 a DBX160t a pair of Sony C535 SDC’s and a C48. So I EQ’ed the mains with the 550 and 560 (mono) put a 535 on her Martin through a 512 and the C48 on her voice ( house mics were PYLE) used the 16O as a bus comp mixed on the 1202. The Mains were the larger JBL Control series with some cheap subs so it didn’t sound great but everybody said it was the best that room ever sounded. For the next 5 years we always had a DBX driverack in the trunk.

Well, I already got the requisite eye roll from EMRR, but recently had the RCA console at Panoramic House rocking as the world's most expensive bass overdrive.
And then there was the U67 on bass drum...

Is panoramic house booking? I have a friend who wants to make a record next month.
Eric.. not slutty but one gig I was on the house EQs were locked up in a cage. Without missing a beat, A1 goes to the bar grabs a drinking straw and flattens the EQ. Fit right onto the sliders. End of gig he put it back..

I used my fancy tube mic to send an iphone video to a fried of me playing and singing a Fugazi sung after I'd had a few beers. Kind of funny to plug something like that into a phone.

Yes, if you have any trouble getting ahold of Jeremy (who is running day to day for John) let me know and I can help connect.

I created an “intro” to a song by feeding the reverb with an API 560. I had all the bands down and just the wet reverb signal in the mix….as I slowly brought each band up to neutral (starting low and working up the spectrum) it was like a synthesizer filter opening up…as I brought up the last band and the reverb came fully into focus I unmuted the rest of the tracks on the downbeat, boom! Cool intro…the band didn’t use it lol

back when I took 'protools advanced' course at a local college, they realized the 888 converters from previous year sucked so they installed 16 channels of UA 2192's to feed the mackie 8 bus and mackie 824 monitors. (back when u47s were 3k and they only had 2 x 414's)

I once assisted on a session where we used the SSL4000G+ as a mixer stand for the producer's Mackie 1604 we were using to record to his Digital Performer rig

I saw a Boston group, The Bagatelle, open a show with Procol Harem and Moby Grape at the Anderson Theater in NYC in 1968. The Bagatelle, with three front men vocalists, were recording the show and they were hand holding U87's to sing into. It looked ridiculous.

[confession] Twice a week, all day long I use my Serrano 87 or Soyuz through either my Weight Tank 72 or Stam 1073MPA, into my Metric Halo ULN-8, out to a Sound Devices MixPre6 mkII, which then goes into my Canon EOS-R with a Sigma Art 24mm f/1.4 or a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2, then out to a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro, on to my Mac Mini M1. I supplement natural light from a big window in my studio with an Aputure Amaran LED panel light. What do I do with all this? I see patients via Telehealth in my psychotherapy practice. Completely ridiculous gear list for the application.
My clients naturally have no idea of the complexity of this signal chain. But many of them comment on how good the picture looks and how good the audio sounds. I justify it with the idea that I'm getting to continually practice with all this gear--and that's true--and I also justify it by how professional it looks/sounds to all my clients. It helps me take my job seriously.
But those are probably just justifications. I certainly don't know any other therapists who go to these lengths with technology and gear. [/confession]

Not to mention which tubes you have in the WT72...

[confession] [...]then out to a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro How has the atem mini pro been for you? The amount of features at that price point is insane. Also reminds me of using a g85 and mkh416 for video conferencing before my employers issued out equipment at the start of quarantine. Good times.

I highly recommend it - or any of the other versions in that line. Actually, now that I think of it, in some ways, it might be a little hard to recommend the Mini Pro now given the added features in the models above it. For instance, I can't record multiple streams and prepackage it as a DaVinci Resolve file to edit multicam later. That would be straight up amazing. But for my current usage, even the Mini Pro is way overkill. It gets hot, though. I'm a little concerned about failure at some point due to heat, but it's worked great for me for over a year now with a lot of hours on it.

Not mine, but was in a studio here where they had a huge SSL board. The last couple years they were open they really only turned the thing on to WOW potential clients and nobody ever used it to track or mix and they wouldn't turn it on unless it was a session big enough to pay for the electricity.
