The fit and finish part caught my attention is that's my only complaint with my Gen1 v44s, and it's nothing that isn't easily dealt with. After reading the story of this coming about as a result of supply chain shortages that they took as an opportunity to improve it doesn't feel like the cash grab of a plugin update. Interesting how they said they lowered the noise, definitely not something I'd complain about with mine.

While a MKII will be cool and possibly find a home in my studio, I am still hoping (or delusional) that someone will whip up a stereo SDC ala Neumann SM-2. <sigh> B9audio CSM88 and FSM88? Pearl DS70?

The cable it shipped with had a cheapo connector that required a lot of force to get in and out of the mic, like almost pull the mic apart kind of force. I swapped it out for a Neutrik and that fixed that. The head grille itself isn't the tightest fit and I often need to make sure it's firmly pressed into the body. Nothing that I think is a dealbreaker especially considering the price/performance ratio but still glad to see they fixed these things.

That kind of price hike puts it out of the running for me; at least for now. I do wish Vanguard all the best with it!

I do wish Vanguard all the best with it! -09 It's just enough that it's making me hesitate; I'm not saying the increase isn't worth the improvements, more that I had a budget for audio upgrades this year and I've already made a few extra purchases that I hadn't planned (JZ Amethyst and Stager SR2). On a closer look, I do think the relocation of the polar pattern switches was smart and the labeling is clearer than before (at least judging by photos).
It may be time to part with some lesser-used microphones. Now I'm wondering if they plan on doing a Gen2 for the V13 or V1 microphones...

I will keep an eye out for a used 44 Gen1. That could be a viable option.

Any more users for any of the Vanguard mics? The v13 tempts me, but as I gather it will also have a gen2 soon.

The V13 is great. The only reason I sold mine is because I bought a U67 reissue. Caveat Emptor - sometimes new versions are better and something they are not better but have different parts because the original parts can no longer be sourced. All I know is that the original V13 is really good.

The Gen2 of the V4 and V44 have been out for a while now and stock seems somewhat hard to come by (at least for the V44S Gen 2 at the moment), so I would ask if you need it sooner rather than later. I could be eating my own words, but I'm not sure how soon the V13's Gen2 will actually hit the street, so buy the Gen1 if you need it. It's been a pretty reliable holdover until Heiserman get ship out more H47Tube's... but even after I get mine, I'm not sure I'd part with the V13 (there's something interesting going on with the top-end of the mic that on some voices really shines).
edit: Just to make it clear, I'm not saying the quality between the mics will be close; more so just that I think the V13 has sort of sonic footprint that I'd probably find useful even if it's not part of the first group of mic's that go up on stands for audition.

I have a pair of V13s. I like 'em a lot!
I use them on most projects. The top end is unhyped and nice. The mids always feel good. Bottom is solid.
It's been good on challenging voices and good on great voices. It's been good on acoustic guitar. It's been good on drum overheads, drum close rooms, and drum far rooms. It does nicely with tambourine which can really expose some mics' lack of capability - the V13 is great in my book!

I haven't used it in a few months but my Gen 1 v44s still makes me happy. Much better than using a Zoom recorder for rundown rehearsals. Other recent use was capturing Altiverb sweeps of a space I knew I wouldn't be able to come back to on that project.

The V44s mark 2 is still on my list of must-have microphones for 2022!

The V44s mark 2 is still on my list of must-have microphones for 2022! Same. I hesitated for some random reason (don't remember) the last time they were in stock. Not going to make that same mistake next time.

The V44S arrived a few days ago; just a random thought, am I crazy in thinking this would be a good microphone to test out different preamps on?
Route the Top capsule to preamp A, the bottom to preamp B, give the source/mic enough distance to compensate a bit in difference between capsule locations, and rock on?

Gen2; it hasn't seen any action yet, but I'll probably do some non-session acoustic guitar stuff sometime this weekend; see how it responds on mid-side duties and checkout the standard XY.
It'll be a hot minute before it finds time as for room/overhead duties, but that's where I'm hoping it'll live predominately.
