I know a few people that have downloaded and used it as a basis for their own mixing.
I've never used a template for mixing. Do you open it and import tracks into the empty ones?

I'd be curious if Vance uses it. I highly doubt it. Maybe once when he created it. I'll have to ask him about it LOL

I use Logic. Powell probably has a lot of analogue on his great mixes.

Can we also get Chris Lord Algae’s template for every mix?... using only Waves CLA plugs of course! Lol.
Yeh always questionable these things.
Although Vance Powell is a pretty straight up dude it seems from his interview and things. Maybe it’s true!

Sorry anyways, thanks for heads up on this tho. Admintingly I always am curious about these things, but over the years sorta realize they are only going to get you so far....you really instead need to have the background/reasoning and knowledge of the person who set it up.

Speaking of the devil, Vance popped up a couple times in here, you can spot some capi gear in the racks too if you’re eagle eyed lol.... I just saw it randomly pop up under docs on prime video last night- currently free/included for those that are prime members but I digress.... & it was a little clunky but overall not too bad. Mark rubel,Steve albini, and a few others are in there too. www.amazon.com/Recording-Progress-Steve-Lillywhite/dp/B08935T48W

What did they say about their mixes using the template? Yes you open the template and either import session data or import audio. If you have the sample rate correct u can drag & drop files into the tracks in PT. You would then tweak all gain staging, plugins, & automation to taste.

Then u gain access to the 1hr vid & VP PT template. Another person replied that he had peers who use the template. Whether VP used this once or never he still set it up or directed PM too. I thought fellow RGO peers would be interested. No need to question me, i bring positive vibes! 👍😀 Edit: Also re: templates only get so far w/o knowledge... Not sure what you are trying to say here but I am very knowledgeable & don’t need anyone templates to make my clients happy or produce, mix, & master industry quality music w/ in the genres I work in. Again I aimed to provide an interesting thread not start a conspiracy or possibly have my abilities questioned. I come in peace 💚 Please listen to my mix and master of Wiz ( fellow RGO member ) song in my signature called, “ Lay Down W/ Me “ it’s a country folksy type song w/ real instruments. I can do way more than Rap, Pop , Trap, RnB 😀 Have a great day!

Do you use Pro Tools? Does VP mixing not float your boat? Has pure mix bombarded you w/ mindless emails? There has to be something for you to feel so enthusiastic re: NO! 😀

There has to be something for you to feel so enthusiastic re: NO! 😀 I've tried using a mix template before. The amount of time I spend importing and dropping files where they need to be, I could have already gotten to work. Didn't feel like I was saving any time and just felt tedious to import. I have a tracking template set up with usual instrument tracks, vocals, busses, etc.

If I worked alongside him, it would have context, otherwise it doesn't.

Problem is, every separate session is different. When I have a session, I'll mix the first one from scratch, then use Import Session Data in PT to bring in Busses and master - maybe like kick, snare, etc. Things that wouldn't have changed in the session. So there's kind've a different mix template for every recording session.

Why are ppl doubting another engineer skills based off if they use a template?
Every name engineer has a setup their assistant funnel everything to so they can “ mix “. Maybe not a template by definition but def a mapped starting point w/ routing & gain staging already in place.
I do not use one for mixing. Only recording vocals and producing. Mastering sometimes but rarely.

I am all for looking at that stuff, I could use any help out there when it comes to this!

But I guess it’s kinda like:
You give me Picasso’s paint selections, brushes and paper....(even go as far as a color by numbers).... there’s no way I’m making anything from that, which looks remotely like a Picasso. But sure I may learn a thing or two about the artistic setup/etc.

He has an SSL 6000. Isn't that pretty much a template already?? 😂😂 I subscribed to puremix a few years ago and watched Vance's other video on there with Tyler Bryant. He uses the console and a lot of outboard. I don't think he used many plugins. Really didn't need it given all his analog gear. I don't recall if that video included a PT template, but remember it being a pretty awesome video with a lot of info.

I'm waiting on jsteiger to bring back Vance's reply. In the meantime, I've been in Vance's studio and all that analog gear and console certainly isn't just there for show, if you follow.

I've taken a look at this template and it's a simplified version of the massively parallel workflow centered on his 6000 console.
I am a Puremix member and have watched both of his "Start to Finish" series more than once. He says during one episode that the console is his "template". I find his methodology to be inspirational, and of all the content on Puremix, he is the most watchable and a great teacher.

Well he states toward the end of video that he doesn’t use the template. He made it to show what he is doing on his console .like an ITB version or example. But great video
