Just a note from a contented member of the PC Master Race (video game joke, pardon.) This rig has been 100% stable and fast for, I don't know, 6 years at least. Not something to brag about but the CPU is an i7 4790K overclocked to 4.4 GHz core speed, with four cores. Has run Apollo, SSL2, Motu M4, Tascam UH7000, Clarett, Steinberg, Quantum, Scarlett, Saffire, and a few others with no issues. Although I suspect a better GPU could get me performance benefits with Premiere Pro. I can't even run the latest version of that software, you need a Kaby Lake or better for that. But for audio, no complaints. The hardware has been solid, most of the work has been upgrading and expanding software. Motherboard is a Gigabyte TBolt 2 thing that UAD approved years ago, which ended up being a smart buy.

My 5,1 Mac Pro gets a Geekbench 5 score of 637 single core and 6279 multi-core. The M1 Mac Mini scores 1707 single core and 7389 multi-core. Once they start upping the core count on Apple Silicon, that multi-core score will go way, way up. But even as is, it completely smokes what I've been running for the past 5+ yrs.
Ancillary to this is the fact that if I get a Mac Mini, it would be quiet enough that I could pull my CPU out of Soren's closet and put the closet door back on its hinges. Which would mean I could get his closet door out from behind the door to our laundry room, and there would finally be enough room to put our mop behind that door instead of it being in my way every single damn day of my life.
Sometimes it's the small things that make a difference.

I've had an M1 13" MacBook Pro for a few weeks now. I haven't done any audio on it. But for utility laptop tasks, it's great. I notice no slowdown of any non compliant apps, but some don't work the way they should, or have quirks. But mostly it works like you'd expect, and it's fast. The boot speed is really fast.
It's silent. If it has a fan, it's never come on. It doesn't get hot. It doesn't even get warm. I'm used to a laptop keeping the top of my thighs toasty. Not this one. The underside is cool to the touch. I plug it in every couple of days.
I hear big versions of Apple silicon are in the works. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the M1 tho, assuming your software works with it.
